As a black girl, I personally don’t mind the braids, but you can’t invalidate people’s feeling of being offended (which many of you are doing) especially when black people with the same braided hairstyles are oftentimes ridiculed by society and are deemed as ghetto, tacky, or unprofessional, while white people are praised for it and are unaffected by the consequences and weight that comes with wearing an ethnic hairstyle as a person of color. Everyone has their own opinions yes, but you can’t be indifferent to the history and culture behind the braids, and society’s response to them, and then make cracks about people being offended because it comes from a place of ignorance on your behalf. Stay educated and have a great day.

XO TWOD while yes that is true, you evidently missed the point of my statement and how it pertains specifically to these braids shown above in particular. Yes white people have been wearing braids for centuries that is a fact, but at the same time you can’t reduce all types of braided hairstyles to solely associate with white people and just ignore the fact that certain types of braids are in fact associated with a specific race or culture. I’m not scrutinizing white people wearing braids, I’m just explaining the significance behind this certain type of braided hairstyle that appears to be the cause for much debate and stating why the hypocrisy of society’s response to THESE types of braids validates people’s feeling of annoyance or anger.
