As someone working in Disability Welfare work can I say something? The amount of elderly that I work with that were all once fitness enthusiasts like yourself and are all now crippled and "wheelchair bound". They now wish they'd not been as enthusiastic about their fitness because long term they've found out that their bodies were not meant for such treatment. I understand you won't believe me, but I've seen a lot of this over the years
@JamesMatthewASMR Жыл бұрын
Looking after your fitness is actually something that can keep you from having to suffer with immobility as you get older. Yeah, if you lift like an idiot and chuck weight your body can’t handle around; it’ll do some damage, but I don’t train like that, or advise anybody train like that 🤷🏻♂️

@@JamesMatthewASMR so you're saying all of these clients were idiots 😡 I was trying to pass on a little wisdom from them. I thought you might appreciate it.

No, that’s not what I’m saying, don’t put words in my mouth. What I’m saying is you’re discouraging people from doing something that there’s overwhelming scientific data is GOOD for them, when done correctly. Lots of people injure themselves when trying to lift weights, that’s why it’s important not to just dive into the weight section but to get proper advice from a trained PT (which I am, by the way) Also young men need to remember heavy weights aren’t always necessary to building muscle, if you create the resistance necessary from light to moderate weights you can avoid injuries and stay fit and healthy in your old age. The answer is making sure to do it under supervision and do it correctly, not discourage people from getting fit. That’s a ridiculous thing to do.

Weighing in with two cents here - a lot of the equipment/footwear/support gear that is available to use now is much better than it used to be, and our knowledge of what constitutes a healthy lifestyle is much better now too. My dad used to be a professional athlete (100m sprint) for cash, touring Highland shows, pro races and all that, and is now 70. His knees are shot to bits, but he very much blames the understanding of exercises and physio they had at the time and the lack of running shoes and studs of the quality we have now. He also speaks of the WILDLY unhealthy culture that went along with pro running in those days - people trained hard, ran hard and then drank hard. Of course injury can happen, but to look at athletes of the past and use them as an example not to train now is to discount 40+ years of medical and technological advancement that has happened since they were in their peak physical condition.

@@JamesMatthewASMR Oh, wow! 🤯you’re a personal trainer, too, James?! I knew you wore a lot of hats🎩🧢⛑, so to speak, as far as things you did, and I just learned you are your own video editor, too (from the comments under your two collab videos with Madi), but I didn’t know you were also a personal trainer. 💪🦵🏃🏋My goodness! you must have excellent time-management⏱ skills, to be able to fit so very many activities into your schedule! 🗓 Bravo, man! 👏You must be far more dedicated than I am. 👍🏻 IDK how you do it all. 🤷🏻♀ You’re absolutely amazing! 😀🏅
