Someone said that I should do a video talking about the difference between my Christmases as a child and my Christmases as an adult. That's what we'll be doing today, along with a bunch of pictures. I hope you enjoy it. :)

I’m only 19 and I lived such a similar childhood as you. I’m glad that you are a living example to prove that it is possible to make it out of that lifestyle on your own. I’m trying so hard. First in college and working for a better life.

Great video. Everything seems to get more elaborate as the years go on, like how in the 70s, a middle class family was “well off” if they could have steak once a month...now they take their family to Disney World every year. Same for Christmases, Halloweens, high school graduations, etc. I remember Christmases as a kid that seem really sparse by today’s standards, and honestly I’m in no better a financial situation as an adult than I was as a kid. I feel guilty as a parent if I don’t get my kids 7,8,9 great gifts, but when I was a kid I used to get only 2-3, and I know my grandparents didn’t get anything that didn’t fit into a stocking. Sometimes I wonder if we’re actually better off for it.

Mary you are the sweetest, most selfless, amazing person. You inspire me to just be better. My heart aches for the child you were and the sadness you must have felt being surrounded by family who just wanted Christmas over and done. And yet you kept your Christmas spirit regardless, and passed it on to your own children (who are beautiful by the way). I love all things Christmas, including all things leading up to it. I would leave my tree up all year if I could get away with it. I just want to say that your videos all make me want to be a better person, but this specific video resignates with me on so many levels. Thank you for sharing all these memories, and sharing the little girl in you, with us all. You are so strong, and it is beyond obvious how sweet, heartfelt person you are. From one Carolinian to another. How would a subscriber send you something if I wanted?

I'm the youngest and the only one left at home now, my mum and stepdad aren't Christmas fans, not even growing up, so it's all down to me to do the decorating and such. I would love to spend Christmas with someone who has the same enthusiasm for it as me. Nevertheless, I don't let their lack of holiday spirit put me down! I also love Christmas time because I have fond memories with pantomime shows coming to my school as a kid and then performing my first pantomime in college (UK) to all the kids, to see their eyes light up just took me back to that childish wonder that I felt when I was their age and I watched the pantomimes.

Hi Mary! Listening to your thoughts about your holidays as a child really reminded me of how much of an amazing childhood I had and made me think of how I will do my best to create some amazing memories with my future kids, just like you have done with yours! Thank you Mary, the memories came rushing back to me. I could talk hours about my various Christmases (when I was a kid - in my country the presents are given in the evening after the meal, so the dinner used to be oh so endless :o); the changes before or after getting married or having kids etc.). Very interesting point is negotiating different ways of spending Christmas in my and my husband´s families and creating your own version - and being really moved seeing your own grown kids to return for Christmas and insisting on all the things we used to do :o) have a very nice time, Mary, with your close ones, despite the strange world we live in! All the best!

This brought back a lot of my old Christmas memories. My Mom & Dad & sister have passed so it is bittersweet to think about all the fun we had. My Mom always brought out the aluminum Christmas tree with a reflector light. We were stylin'. I think we all had a favorite present we got when we were children -- I had two, a sno-cone machine & a Chatty Cathy doll. Loved those days but each year it is fun to create new memories with your kids or grandkids. Thanks for reminding me of those days -- with tears in my eyes. We always would put up decorations when they showed The Rudolph special with the Island of Misfit Toys. Christmas joy to you & all!!!

Oh Mary, hugs to you. I can relate to living in poor, dismal conditions as a child, & we lived in NY state. We moved several times in my childhood, each place was as dreary & poor as the one before. There’s that saying, I don’t have it down quite exactly but the sentiment is , you think your broken shoes with holes are so bad, until you meet a man with no shoes. Life lessons that I hope no one needs to learn that way. Hugs & love.

My childhood christmases were filled with an abundance of presents and food, when I had my children money was tight, my family still had their extravagant christmases, but excluded myself and my children, my children look back at our poor Christmases with fondness, but the grudge with extended family excluding us because we were poor runs very very deep. Merry Christmas to you, may your dreams come true.

I couldn't find anything to watch on TV so came to youtube and you never fail Mary i felt a bit down this morning and after watching you reading stories and now this lovely video sharing how you love christmas has made me feel full of joy, it truly makes me feel so happy seeing you share your love of Christmas and making it special for your boys ❤ I feel very lucky for having had the Christmas' that my mum made so incredibly special for us as children as I understand not everyone is so lucky, and as a mum now to four young children I also understand how difficult it can be money wise etc. But isn't it such a privelege and so wonderful making the magic for our children ❤

Lovely idea for a video. I had an idea for a whisper ramble video which I thought you might enjoy. As a city living english woman the wilds of America fascinate me and id love to hear a ramble about the area that you live? Is it urban and built up or green and rural? Is your town big or small and what are the buildings like? Are there lakes and forests and rivers nearby or is more of a green field farming area. Is it flat or mountainous? What kind of wildlife do you get? That sort of thing 😊. Thanks as ever for your commitment to your channel! X

Ah Mary this all sounds so lovely. I can hear the nostalgia in your voice from when your boys were small. I am 35 and have a 7 and 2 year old (also boys.) They are so very loved and I try to spend every moment creating memories for them. But I work hard and have a house and commitments and sometimes find myself shouting or rushing about and forgetting to enjoy the moment. You are so right, they are only little for such a short time. We’ve spent a wet and cold day today making Christmas cards and ornaments for the tree from pine cones. They truly are amazing and your video has reminded me to take it a bit slower and enjoy those special moments. Take care and have a wonderful Christmas x

I absolutely love Christmas. I’m lucky that my parents have had the same Christmas spirit and have made it so special for me and my siblings growing up. And they still do. I hope one day I can do the same for my kids ❤️🎄

🥰 Love, love, love this!!!! It was fascinating. I spent half of my life in a trailer as well, but we were lucky enough to have heating in the winter and swamp cooling in the summer - you poor thing! I love to hear how much you loved Christmas as a kid… I was the same way. Luckily, my mom loved it as much as I did and with what little money we had, she always made Christmas magical for us. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!! Your stories are always so interesting. You are such an amazing, fun mom despite all that you missed out on. ❤️❤️❤️
