Original vampires were more like zombies which is why this one was just an undead warlock. The myth was that if someone didn't sit with the body for three days they could come back. Or if the person died alone and exposed to the moonlight they'd come back. I really recommend tale of the vampyre by polidori. His was the one of the first intelligent Vampire stories. Before that they were kind of mindless and would just come back zombie style and attack their families that didn't give them proper burials
