I grew up with doctor parents so I knew my blood type ages ago but when I got pregnant all the doctors kept sending me to get my blood type tested. It happened like 3 times! Anyway, needless to say I am a thousand percent sure I’m B+ 😂

Actually when you’re pregnant they check to see if you have any antibodies in your blood that would be incompatible with the baby :)

Okay but in real life, I'm an adult who's had my blood drawn many times and yet I still have no clue what my blood type is

To be quite honest, aside from knowing it for your own curiosity and thinking if you should donate whole blood or plasma, there's not really much need to know your own group. If you need blood urgently, you will be transfused with "universal" blood/group O, even if you tell doctors/paramedics your group, because should there be a mistake, it can cause a quite severe reaction within the body, so better to be safe than sorry. Or, if time permits, the hospital will test it prior to transfusion. The reason for this is because blood can develop antibodies which can react against donated blood and can cause reactions. These antibodies form after transfusions in the past or even past exposure to foreign blood such as in childbirth, but is never guaranteed (we are still pursuing why some people develop antibodies and some do not as a topic of research because it could change our transfusion practices if we find out why!). As such, whenever someone needs some blood, if we have time, we test, just in case an antibody has developed, so we can keep the patient as safe as possible. I was in that situation too, I know it’s not information I need but I was super curious. I ended up donating blood through the Red Cross and when they send you a “thank you for donating” email it tells you what your blood type is, as they have to test it in order for it to go into the system. Not only will you get to find out what type your blood is, but you also get the satisfaction of knowing you helped someone. Would highly recommend!

My mom always told me my blood type would be B+ or O because she's B+ and she has always thought my dad was O,we couldnt confirm his blood type since he's passed.I found out my blood type was A- after donating and we were all a bit surprised, it's always funny to look back on
