Maybe im too late to comment this but just fyi: Those "chalk" arent even made from the same materials as your usual classroom chalk. Those are special chalk for tailors to sketch on fabric. They're made from hardened wax/clay. Therefore they dont make that horribly high pitched scratchy sound like the classroom chalk on a blackboard... My granny is a tailor therefore i know a bit about this, i also used to play with them when i was a kid lol

Not sure if it's the same thing but they remind me of a marking stick. Long white rectangle resembling plastic and left behind a flakey white residue, used it to mark steel. Edit: size of a golf pencil

That’s because it’s not exactly “chalk” it’s more like a hardened wax type thing, people use it mostly for tailoring clothes and whatnot. I’ve seen it in a few movies. Someone else explained this on another comment as well.

The shape of the chalk matters for those vibrations. You won't be able to produce sounds like this with your good old classroom chalk. Maybe something similar from sidewalk chalk, but even then physics.

@@Undomaranel I get what youre saying but this also is not actual chalk like the classroom ones. It’s hardened wax used mostly by tailors to draw shapes as it dissapears easily. Thats the main reason why the sounds are deeper, its wax.

For those surprised how good this chalk sounds it’s technically not exactly chalk per se. It’s called tailors chalk, it’s a waxed based “chalk” that tailors and us seamstresses use in alterations and garment sewing. It’s very smooth, thicker in the center and tapered down on each end. The waxy element of it is VERY convenient as it disappears instantly when we go to press out our newly finished projects. I’m a seamstress by trade and this stuff is on my top 10 list of sewing essentials. Basically that’s why the sound of it isn’t literal ear rape like regular chalk is because I hate the sound of regular chalk 👎🚫🙉
