Here is something DIFFERENT!
Day 5 of our North Atlantic Crossing was a beautiful day. We stayed hours in the cockpit, just listening to the world. and to share with you exactly how ZEN we felt, we decided to ONLY film the sounds of the sea around us. This mini-step has NO VOICES, NO MUSIC, only the beautiful and peaceful connection between our sailboat and the ocean.
We understand this type of video isn't for everyone, so if this isn't your cup of tea, no need to be mean or dislike, just come back tomorrow 😉

I don’t need music or any other distractions when sailing a reach like this. How peaceful it is. The boat cutting through the water. The water in harmony with the hull and the wind. Can listen for hours on end and not be bored. A sound land lubbers will never know and know not what they miss and be the worse for it. Nice video.....nicer audio.

This was brilliant. In today's media world vying for short attention spans, we're lucky to enjoy more than a 2-second clip before the next image bombards us. So, so, beautiful to hear the ocean without the need for other music! We lived on a boat for two years, but now we can no longer experience the ocean unless we are alone on a beach without someone's idea of music taking away the very reason for being there.

As someone who is also sensitive to noise, I admire how you keep your boat quiet. You design for things to stay put, make sure your latches work and are secure, you tuck things away, halyards aren't tapping on the mast... it's soothing to listen to Uma work her way through the water.

Dan and Kika, that video is soooo representative of the most beautiful aspects of long distant sailing! Near perfect conditions, perfect point of sail, the boil and bubbles of the water rushing past the hull and vane, the subtle sounds of the wind, the images of the sails set and working optimally! This is the closest video I have watched, that matches my feelings of why I loved to sail. Thank you so much!! The video title should have been... "The Zen Sights and Sounds of Sailing at Sea" One question is I estimated you were travelling between 6 - 7 knots? Correct?

Thanks Ken, it's easy to capture what sailing looks like, it's very hard to capture what it feels like, glad you felt something watching this. And yes we average about 6.5 kts, I think in that wind we may have been bumping closer to 7. Good eye.

I'm binge watching this Atlantic crossing series. I was riveted to my big screen with the sound adjusted to replicate the sound of being there... Your different camera perspectives were captivating beyond description. I've always wondered what it would be like to do this... Thank you so much for filming this, sharing it with us, and teaching us so much. I'm signing up to Patreon to contribute to your noble project. Merci avec toute mon coeur.... My dad was in the US Navy in WWII. His first time on the ocean was in Operation Torch where they made this crossing with the largest naval armada ever assembled in the history of the world. He was captivated by the sea and longed his entire life to return to it... never did. You're helping pacify my wanderlust for this adventure...

I absolutely loved this video, the sounds of the sea as it bled past the UMA, the sound of the few short whispers of the wind in the shrouds and through the lines. The most amazing video parts of the UMA from the bow and the stern with nobody in the cockpit. Like she was alone going through the seas and wind. Then the duet of both of your jackets swinging in unison and stopping almost at the same time, representing how well you two work hand in glove together. Damit folks, I'm a rough, gruff Canuck truck driver and I'm not supposed to be able to spin into a romantic, gentle description of what I'm hearing and seeing...ahhhh but that statement has it's own answer....Canadian, okay. I'm going to shut up and watch and listen again. I can understand how some people would find it maddening to just listen and watch the ocean and wind, if one cannot and just as you say, do the zen thing, then they never will. Fair winds to you both.
