Well in the movies he definitely is closer to a zombie I'm terms of behaviour and looks, but he has understanding and emotions that most types of Zombies in media would lack which could add weights to the human side of the scale. Also in the books he's basically Perfectly reconstructed, no stitches, green skin, bolts, but instead a big and muscular human with black hair and dead eyes

I’m only like five minutes in and I’m just thinking, one, that these are instructions given to the zombie, like say a doctor, who gave the zombie the instructions for the pre-exam. But it would be funny if, even though they speak broken English, they’re writing the most detailed and well written notes, in beautiful handwriting. Like they were taught how to do all that, but the English itself wasn’t a priority as everything else was already a lot to teach them.
