hi! i know a bit about audio so i thought i would explain why the tascam uses batteries. tldr; microphones need specific voltage to work well, ESPECIALLY at high qualities, so a microphone either needs to be fully plugged in, or use batteries! the reason for this is pretty cool! when a microphone captures sound, its internal parts (especially in condensers) need really specific, stable power to work right. that's why pro mics either plug into an audio interface for "phantom power" (a steady 48V supply) or run on batteries. regular alkaline batteries are actually perfect since they keep almost the exact same voltage until they die. this means your audio quality stays clean and consistent. rechargeable batteries slowly drop voltage as they drain, which can mess with your sound quality or add noise - definitely not what you want when making asmr this is also why having both options (phantom power or batteries) is so useful. sometimes you can't be near power, but you still need that exact same stable power source to get good audio. and if your batteries do die, you can just pop in new ones and keep going, instead of having to wait for a recharge. it might seem wasteful to use disposable batteries, but when you need really high-quality audio, that stable power requirement kind of forces this design choice
