I think instead of strands it could've been rows. Like put both ends of the plastic string in the clay and do rows. Kinda like those kids toys in a doctor's office. 😅 idk

Creative and cute! If you really want to shorten the strands, I think you could. Just untie the knots, remove a couple beads and re-tie it shorter. Not that you have to, just an idea if you wanted to try it.
