From the company’s point of view it’s almost like thank you for choosing us and please let us take care of what you need from now. It’s quite some emotion packed into one phrase isn’t it? From the customer’s point of view it’s pretty much just like it’s translated. Please take care of me. But it’s less emotion now a days of course it’s like someone at at a restaurant saying “I’ll be serving you this evening” in japan they just happen to also repeat the same phrase back to the staff, but from the customer it’s more like “alright thanks” In Japan it’s said a lot by spa, health, hair, and body people basically. Doctors say it, dentists say it, and spa staff say it cause they are literally taking care of your body probably, But people don’t really say it too much in restaurants they usually say “welcome and thanks” is all. Mmm staff who are also about to explain something to you (like at a bank or realtor or such) also say it because they are about to take care of you…. By explaining lol
