Mineral sunscreen is not really better it's just a matter of what works for you. Some people do not like chemical sunscreens because some studies have supposedly shown that one of their ingredients might increase the risk of cancer as the sunscreen sits in the bottle and starts to expire and there are doubts as to whether the expiration label on the bottle accounts for this. If it worries you, you can just buy new sunscreen each year regardless of the expiration date. Most mineral sunscreens don't normally blend well into the skin and leave a whitecast because they work by forming a layer on the skin that UV rays reflect off of. Chemical sunscreens will work by absorbing the UV rays in place of your skin so most brands of chemical sunscreen will look and feel a lot better on skin. Some people use one sunscreen over the other because one type will make them break out or otherwise irritate their skin. Both sunscreens will protect your skin well when applied sufficiently. Some people have also found that one or the other will not apply well on top of other skincare products they may be using underneath of it.

Some people think zinc is less toxic compared to chemical sunscreens for the environment and for your skin, because of some studies where they slathered sunscreens directly on coral. But your skin is not coral, and when you go swimming in the ocean the sunscreen is muuuuuuch more diluted than in those studies. You only need to use zinc if that's what you prefer! Some people like it more for sensitive skin, I like using it around my eyes because it doesn't burn them when I sweat like some other sunscreens do. Oh and the most cosmetically elegant and protective sunscreens are asian and french sunscreens :)
