You know times were different long ago. My departed dad was raised in East PA on a farm. And the local farm kids had a ONE ROOM Schoolhouse. Really. But get this: He said that he and all his friends would bring their rifles to school in deer season and lean then against the wall where they hung the coats, and they would walk home through the fields after school hunting deer. And he said nobody even contemplated any sort of gun violence. Imagine that? Bringing rifles to school to hunt deer after school? But that was 1940's rural Pennsylvania, Carbon county. Times have definitely changed.

Your dad's generation moral diet was sure different than the moral diet now days. No violent games, toys, tv shows, etc. Mostly clean stuff. Now days not much is taught moral issues. The high school where I graduated was usually full of pick-up trucks from the high boys and most of them had deer riffles/shot guns in them hanging on a rack by the back window. Doors most of the time was. unlocked in the trucks. No one stole the guns, and NEVER was it a thought for them to ever shoot another person..! A lot of this come from the " NON-moral/media/diet" that is fed to people now days.

There IS a solution to stop crime. But it is ignored. Deliberately ignored.

The usual suspect. I WISH someone could stop them from believing that innocent people are NOT open season targets in malls, grocery stores, schools (poor kids), movie theaters, etc. 😢😢😢

Why didn’t someone stop him? Doesn’t anyone carry? At least he lived so maybe the police can get answers before the feds get to him. The feds do this you know and you would be foolish to think they wouldn’t.

Really? Shooting at a store named, "The Mad Butcher."? Another video interview a lady saying it was so unbelievable to have this happen in a small town. But really it's just everywhere. I go out and wonder who is packing in the car next to mine, sitting at a traffic light and I don't drive fast enough or some other minor issue, and they just blow a fuse and go psycho. But people are really on a hair trigger these days. It's such a common problem with temper and stress on people. The days are getting longer and hotter and we never seem to get ahead. Everyone is worried that they're going to lose their job over some little thing like some accountant in the main office deciding to shut that store down, or trim payroll for the rest of the year waiting for something to budge with the interest rates or the Election. Government seems to scoff about mental health, but really gun violence is a mental health issue. For people to turn on one another and inflict deadly harm is NOT healthy mental thinking. We do have a mental health issue. You hear the NRA say, "Guns don't kill people, People kill People"'> so there you go, fix this competitive live or die mentality, rich getting rich off our hard work and we get the peanut or just the shells. Government on one side hates Unions, but I tell you, I would feel a lot safer these days if I was part of something strong and I was looked after and Business and Labor decided to bury the hatchet and be partners in making a good product or service. Just take a moment and imagine holding a gun on someone and pulling the trigger> that would be such an awful experience. How do we get to that point? It's really an act of desperation.

Yes the Mad Butcher grocery store is a chain of grocery stores in this part of the South. I thought it was a bit weird when I moved to Fordyce but apparently it's a very common place . My mother said it's been around a very long time. The name of the grocery store and the event that happened are just coincidence.

Here's a tough bone to chew on while we contemplate another crap day in America. The cost of this mess. Not the Human cost. Gun violence in the United States has significant economic consequences. According to a peer-reviewed study published in the journal JAMA, gun violence costs the U.S. approximately $557 billion annually, which accounts for 2.6% of the country’s gross domestic product 1. This substantial cost includes both direct and indirect impacts: Quality-of-Life Losses: The majority of this cost is attributed to quality-of-life losses among individuals injured by firearms and their families. Healthcare Costs: For those who survive firearm injuries, direct health-care costs amount to roughly $30,000 in the first year alone, representing a significant increase compared to other workers who did not sustain firearm injuries. Private Companies: Revenue and productivity losses resulting from gun injuries to workers cost private companies an additional $535 million annually. Long-Term Effects: Survivors of firearm injuries experience increased rates of pain disorders, psychiatric disorders, and substance use disorders. And how much does Law Enforcement have to spend? It's extra manpower, more shifts, more stress and hostility on and toward the Police, more lost wages due to increased sick leave, and then there's the cost to police's personally, they have a very high rate of divorce and abuse and suicide. To be a cop, you got to be able to get rid of all that day to day emotional baggage from the job. Beat cops especially, having to ride around often on night shift and weekends and holidays and covering for people that quit or just are calling in because they can't deal but they will not take counseling because it make them look bad or weak> the boss's watch you because they are worried you are not able to handle the job. It's just crap. I own guns, but they stay home. I know myself and even I can be stupid just once and that is all it takes to make my life and maybe someone else's damaged or worse. It's not worth it. I just try to drive on the right side and just a couple mph off the speed limit not to make trouble or make anyone mad. It's so easy, they are all rushing for the next Red Light, just to stop and sit and go and stop and go. I try to ride my bike more and keep the car parked. It's just to hostile and competitive just to go down the street.

So what could we spend $557 Billion on instead of fixing the outcome of gun violence? What we could do is a lot of things. We could take $400 Billion a year and pay down the US Debt. We could take $50 Billion a year for school renovations and improvements and better teacher pay. We could take $50 Billon a year to shore up Social Security Trust Fund. We could take $50 Billion a year to finance Health Care; Obama Care and Medicare. We could take $7 Billion a year to and build a lot of small transition housing for homeless people. And that is NOT new money bein added to the National Debt or new Taxes being Raised. That is just us bringing the cost of gun violence down in America by fixing the Mental Health epidemic and getting people some help and maybe just someone build a few less prisons and What are your thoughts?
