Some people are born with red hair, and some are blond. Others are born left-handed. Some people have green eyes. Some people prefer the companionship of the same gender. It makes no difference. Don't hate, don't fear, love one another and you'll enjoy happiness.

åҚŖÅм ćЖĀỔÚị definition of natural: existing in or caused by nature. homosexuality exists in over 1500 animal species. that computer you’re typing on however, isn’t so natural. yet here we are.

grayson evans you’re not broken. trust me, i’ve been there, i’m still there. what i can tell you is that if your family can’t love you for something you can’t control, then how much of a family are they? trust me, i know that’s hard, but you have to live for your own happiness, not someone else’s. and i can’t tell you what to believe in, that’s something you have to figure out on your own and come to your own conclusions. i never believed people when they told me things would get better. it’s still not perfect, but i can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. and i know you’ll be able to as well. if you need to talk, i’m here 💞

åҚŖÅм ćЖĀỔÚị i wasn’t the one making the argument being gay was wrong because it’s unnatural, you were. being gay isn’t wrong because it’s not hurting anyone. why do you care so much about what two consenting adults do outside of your home? why are you even hating on people that have nothing to do with you?

I'm straight, but this film is an interesting view on gay teens, and I feel really sorry for them for what they have to go through. I really hope that one day in the distant future we can all gather together and accept each other as people with a unique backgrounds. I'm glad that I was raised well with my open-minded parents. This is an amazing film. I am glad there are films like this out there to spread awareness. Most of us on here know what it is like to be bullied for our sexuality, or anything else. We truly have to just love ourselves and accept ourselves, easier said than done know, but we can all get there, no matter who we are :)

What a phenomenal performance by the actor playing Phil in that last scene. I don't know if I've ever seen a more real scene. The subtleties in his face and everything were perfect. So perfect that I'm almost wondering if that part was unscripted and an inspiration for the film in the first place?

There are SO MANY children in foster care/ arphanage homes because of straight people who couldn't take care of a kid 4. What if they don't want kids?

All Over the Guy, Beautiful Thing, Trick. Just to name a few. This film is sad because we need to acknowledge the elephant in the room. This is a story that needs to be told. Also, artistic expression is a great way to process grief. It certainly beats drinking yourself to death.

He definitely isn't alone. I've nearly attempted suicide 8 times, first one at age 6/7. I'm 12 now and constantly fight gender dysphoria and my suicidal thoughts. Living in an unsporting home is the toughest thing I will probably ever go through. And that's saying something. I go to hospital god knows how many times for seizures. I have epilepsy and it's not easy. Life's not easy.

I grew up in the 60's and it wasn't much better. An "actual practicing homosexual" was interviewed on a late night talk show with his face in shadow and a voice box distorting his voice, because if people found out he would lose his job and be ostracized. Needless to say, I struggled for years to not be gay. Now I'm fine with it. It's legal, it's healthy. As for immoral, shit, everybody deserves some fun in life! Love yourself; that's the first step towards loving other people. And remember, you're not alone.

As a 20-year-old and as a Christian I struggle with this it has become a besetting sin, but I have to do as God tells us we are to beat our bodies into submission we are Not to yield to temptation. But if and when we do fall into a sin we are to ask Christ to forgive us because He is Faithful and Just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. notwithstanding, although we are under grace we are Not to use Grace as a license to sin but rather we are to serve Christ and obey Him in love of what He did for us at the Cross, and we are always to keep in mind that the work which God begins in us He Will complete it even to the Day of Jesus Christ, where on that Day He will present us without faults and without spots_ Christ being our advocate, our lawyer, our stand in, and our High Priest, and even now always making intercession for us in Heaven. ❤️📖 < But the Lord is faithful He will establish You and guard You against the evil.

Being Gay does not mean that your Defective in some way or that you are less then anyone else. Or Are damaged, came out (born missing something) parts that God will always Hate Punish you for Being Who, What You Were Originally Made To Be! Their "God Made Each And Everyone In His Or Her Image" Start Being Proud of Who You Are and Who You Love. Stop Accepting Fear as A Way of Life ( Grade-school through Early Adulthood) Until you Learn To Love Yourself and Stop Listening to those that want to Control and Tell You To Change Your Core Being. Be Proud of Who You Are and Learn To Make The Best Of That Life and Do All That You Can To Enrich and Expand That Part of You That Makes You Special. Because You Are So Special, You Can Love Openly, Honestly, Fully, Where Others Have to Fake it, or Learn to Lie About Who they are, What Love Really Is To Them. If They Try To Change You Tell Them "You First" Refuse To Change and Refuse to Accept That their is anything wrong with you, or those you Love. The only way to change our society is if we force it too change. If we keep letting Church, Schools, Politicians, Political Organizations inflict their beliefs on you. Its Time to start making them accept you and inflicting your Needs, Wants, Beliefs Back to them!! If Society will not fully change then its time to make it, through the use of public protests and the Courts use the tactics of your enemies against themselves.

JK, and there's more than just without genders. There are boys who feel female inside; there are girls who feel male inside. There are boys who act more like girls. There are girls who are more like boys. There are boys with more than one X chromosome. There are girls with a Y chromosome. There's a lot of variety out there. A lot of people are afraid to show who they really are because there are also a lot of people who out of fear will punish and hurt them if they appear to be breaking the rules about what is supposedly "normal." If someone fears someone who is different then he should ask, what is it about myself that makes me so afraid of someone else who is different from me or who doesn't conform to "the rules."

Plot Analysis [Spoilers] The beginning (in the field) is a dream sequence. The woman at the door is foreshadowing his suicide attempt and shows her side of it (we see his side later). In the park, Adam didn't get rejected per se. Phil liked him, but he was closeted and didn't know about Adam (also closeted). So he pulled back from the kiss as a defense, just in case. (It's exactly what I would've done). Adam didn't know if Phil was gay, so he interpreted this to mean that Phil was straight. He was scared that Phil would tell everyone that he tried to kiss him, so he probably told people Phil was gay/tried to kiss him instead. To stay closeted, he has to join in, but since he's closeted, he feels like he has to do more to prove to everyone that he's not gay. He also probably feels like he has to go even further because Phil is the only one who can tell everyone what really happened. Adam's brother probably doesn't know, and just teases him about being gay because that's just the way he picks on him (I'm not sure about nowadays, but it was *VERY* common in the 90s). The mom is surprised that he's wearing lipstick, so Adam is probably not out to his family (or his brother). But he's still being beaten up by his brother for being gay... Not knowing that his brother probably *doesn't* know if he is or not, he *assumes* he does. He tries to "beat the gay" out of himself, except he does that through Phil. By picking on and beating up Phil, he's picking on and beating up his own "gay side", hoping that it'll just disappear... except it doesn't because "sexuality is something you can't get rid of" (which is why he runs by Phil's house, even though he bullies him) Also, it looks like Phil made 2 attempts, one with poisoning (probably pills) throwing it up in the bathroom, then gets the idea with the rope after surviving the first attempt At the end You see Phil's 2 faces, he's Janus (like the writing assignment), one half in the past, one half in the future. But he only turns to one side, so that you can see the "unbeaten" side, the future side, the "it gets better" side. Also, the Alan Watts dub is synched line for line to the visuals: "Beat it into submission" > Adam being beaten up by his brother... " I beat my body into submission > Phil spankin' it And: "[love/sexuality] is not something you should look upon with regret" > cue shot of Phil.... "it is only something regrettable if you didn't know how to take [love/sexuality] when it was time" > cue shot of Adam. The painting looks like a mask, a broken mask with its eyes closed. Masks are used to hide your face, but you can usually see out through the eye holes. The eyes of that mask were closed. Nobody could see in, and he couldn't see out. It's a symbol for him feeling not just "disguised" but trapped, he can't see a way out from behind the mask, and (he thinks) nobody can see "the real him" behind it. I think Mike is a symbol for love/sexuality. It's something you can't get rid of, even when you want to. I think he's also a callback to when things were worse. "It's already gotten better from how things used to be" He's the "back in my day" guy, despite not saying a word. Brilliant piece, but "too real" for me to be able to go to bed any time soon. I gotta shut down on a more positive note

+nOnOy borbun i agree. although, this is entirely based off of my own experiences, when he denied the kiss.. i almost felt more sory for the bully... I feel more empathy towards that fear and loneliness, related to rejection and fear of never finding someone... If someone, who was also gay, rejected me in that manor in high school... idk maybe i would have reacted the same away.. i've spent to much time feeling as though i'll be alone forever... fear does wierd thigns to people... the kid in this story came out to obviously another gay kid, and was embarassed. I'm not defending bullying. I'm pronouncing an aspect of gay teens that is ignored in a lot of comments here. The bully came out first, was rejected, and surged into fear... I can't imagine. I never came out in high school. Instead i found solace in drugs. It ruined my life. I only ever wanted that guy (how many times i caught feelings for a guy) who i could come out with. I never feared being a gay person, just being gay alone... It's very touching to me because I feel attatched to both characters... Im several years out of high school, but this brings be back, reminds me of how my reaction to my sexuality hamstrung me. If we (gays) could just be ourselves, we woldn't be driven into these various ways of coping (depression, anger, victim, bully)... It's not fair to blame the consequences i've faced in my life based off of my reaction to the consequences i've faced in my reactions to my experience of my sexuality, but it's most certaintly fair to examine the fact that future generations could most certainly be spared my life's (i'm 21 very young but in tihs stage of my life i can see where i am effected from this) consequences by changing the way that sexualtility changes, moulds, and creates young men/woman

I'm 77 years old. I came out to my family at 17, in 1960. Thankfully, except for my sister, they were accepting. I now live openly in a very small town in the desert. All I can say is that if you want to live an open life, you cannot care what other people think. You can only give of yourself.

I only wish that I could of said I was gay from the early age of 10. Although I’m 53 now found it difficult to come to terms with being gay. Because of the stigma back then. I was beaten up in the care of social services. Beaten so bad there was nobody around me ( white in the care system ) to talk to in that way. That was 1980 onwards. ( I was only 10 at the time ) at the age of 9yo I was given the beating of my life. And for my 10th birthday I was covered in bruising from my eyeballs to my bollocks. They were the homophonic years of my life. I could never come out and say I’m gay. Or all my school mates would of filled me in. It was ok to talk about girl friends. But not say my boyfriend is. ( you reading this ) All I can say is you my older new found 77yo friend. You were brave to come out in the 60’s that was 9 yrs before I was born. I mean coming out to your family at 17, in the 60’s. That was a brave thing to do. However I’m pleased that your family accepted you for being gay. Except for your sister, I’m pleased they were accepting. You for being you. Reading your comments has helped me. Come to terms with my own personal problem’s. As I live in a very small town with plenty of bigots. And my own family make up most of them. And yes your correct if you want to live an open life, you cannot care what other people think. And that’s just one of my many problem’s up until now.

Thankfully there are those who continue to make films like Teens Like Phil. I'm gay and my teen years were pure hell. I lived in fear every day I went to class that someone would somehow find out. I wanted so badly to find someone else like me but the risk was too great so I went on being lonely, depressed and closeted. Thankfully teens in most modern countries today live in a much more liberal climate, but there is much work to be done to change the hearts of the hateful.

TheColleenSingsStuff Yes. The bully was gay as well, but was petrified of his sexuality, so he took out all his frustration on Phil. Obviously that's not the right thing to do, but remember the bully was scared of being gay because of society's reaction to homosexuality. So the real villain is homophobia.

I ran into that with two friends, two different times. Alone, each was the perfect boyfriend. When we were out in public they were complete idiots. That's a problem with not being completely out. First, in 1996. Second in 2017. The second time, older and wiser, I was like, ummmm no! I never was beaten nor physically abused, though. I can't imagine going through that AND the emotional stuff.

in my English class, age 15, I wrote a story about a gay kid committing suicide. NOTHING was ever said directly to me by any teacher, all I got was a comment at the end of the story along the lines of " a very interesting story, being gay is a difficult issue for a lot of people. If you wish to discuss the story please come to see me". Putting the onus on a scared kid crying out for help to make the 2nd move after already making the 1st. I grew up in Thatcher's 80s, the time of Section 28 and rampant homophobia. I had a load of pills in my bedroom at the time that I took out on a number of occasions with the intention of taking them, however the fear of a painful death was stronger than the fear of the continued taunts. it took another 10 years before I finally got passed the bullying etc and came out and accepted who I was. I was disowned by my mother but my thoughts on that were if you don't accept me I don't need you in my life, that was the last time we spoke 22 years ago. I have not seen any member of my birth family in 21 years but have created my own family of those around me. I have also lost my best friend who, unable to deal with his own sexuality, got religion and is now, as far as I know, in his 2nd 'heterosexual' marriage.

I'm a 65-year-old man today. I know what you mean. I know about bullying and loneliness, hiding, pretending, listening to jokes. I found my way not belonging to any group, not expecting anything from any body, running away, I did run away a lot, I travelled a lot, I often felt betrayed. But I found my way, and never turned my back on love. I had lots of partners, lovers, colourful friendships. They're all gone now. I met my partner when I was 50 through the internet. We've been together for 15 years. What would've been my life if I had turned into what my parents, my teachers, society wanted form me when I was 15 or 20? Not certainly what it is now. I'm happy but I know how hard it was.

Y’all are ignorant if you don’t consider this a problem. People are killing themselves because they aren’t able to love who they want. They are getting harassed and hated on. Straight people don’t get shit like this, they are always congratulated on finding a lover. But gay people? People are disgusted by the fact, and they think that we are being babies. This can lead to depression, self harm, anxiety, and eventually suicide.

How can someone do that at school and not get charged with aggravated assault? How can they not be spelled from school? Or transferred to another one to protect the victim? Since I came to this country, USA, I always wondered that. This system is so crazy. My brother had a prob at school and mom called the cops. School staff were mad but since then, nobody messes with him, thanks god. Something needs to be done to deal with these kids that go to school not to learn and make friends but to make others life as miserable as theirs.

Got picked on for supposedly being gay. We moved away. Later I discovered I was in fact gay. As an adult I connected with a friend from where we used to live who also turned out to be gay. I learned from him that a lot of the guys who were attacking me were actually fooling around and experimenting with other guys. I'd say MOST of the homophobic bullies have AT THE VERY LEAST feelings they can't deal with in themselves.

For those looking for the Narrators words - it is Alan Watts. Ignore the grammar :) "The physical world is transient; it's impermenant, it falls apart. And bodies that were once strong, smooth and lovely in youth begin to wither and become corrupt and turn at last into skeletons to the degree that you identify yourself with the body, and with the pleasures of the body. To that degree you are simply going to be something that is sucked away in the course of transiency. So therefore hold yourself alouf. Keep your mind like a mirror; pure and clean, free from dust, free from flaws, free from stain and just reflect everything that goes on but don't be attached. You are an irrational soul, in-charge of an animal body. If you belong to the old fashion school, you beat it into submission. As St Paul said, "i beat my body into submission". We are all falling apart in some way or another, especially after you passed the peak of youth. The very fact you see that the world is always decaying and always falling away, is the same thing as it's vitality. Vitality is change. Life is death. It is always falling apart. When it comes to love, sexuality; timing is of the essence but that's not something that one should look upon with regret - it only is something regrettable if you didnt know how to take it when it was timely, because it is after all through sexuality that we have our most fundamental relationship to nature and it is the point at which we can become most attached. There is no way of making a hedge grow like pruning it. Sexuality is something which you cannot get rid of. Do what you may - life is sexual. We get a hang up on all the various things that we are told as we grow up; by our parents, our aunts and uncles, our teachers, above all by our peer group. A lot of the current quest for identity among younger people is a search for an acceptable image - what role can I play? And the first thing that everybody wants to tell us is the difference between ourselves and the rest of the world. I can never get to look at me - real me. It's always behind. It's always hidden. And so if you are perfectly honest about loving yourself and you don't pull any punches, you don't pretend that you were anything other then exactly what you are - if you can do that, you have no further problem."
