Just wanted to pass along a heart felt thank you for posting this video.....I got a job as a transfer driver, and was given minimal training and sent to deliver asphalt to a job site. I took the tips from the video and did pretty well. I had one little hiccup when I didn't hold the brakes firm enough against the paver, but I learned and did not do it again. Just a tip of the hat to you.

One time a truck driver delivered a load, emptied in the paver. He then left for another load, stopped at Tim Hortons for a coffee. Smoked a huge joint I presume. When he came back, he backed into the paver, lifted his box, and to everyone's astonishment nothing came out. He forgot to go back to the yard to get another load!!

Stopping for lunch with a load of mix on you? Wow. We just had a driver haul off a lot of broken asphalt, then go load hot mix. When he came back and dumped into the hopper, he still had half the load of broken asphalt still in the bed under the hot mix. Incredible.

Hi! Good video! I was in the Teamsters union here in San Diego for 32 years, I can happily say I am retired now. Did a whole lot of asphalt paving thru out those years as well as many other on and off road driving. We didn't have U Tube when I first started, had to kinda figure it out on the fly. You did a good job. Brought back memories, but I highly recommend retirement!😆 Keep on trucking and keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down!😉

Great video, very informative on what happens at each step. I'm new to this industries and I just started doing over night work on the highway running under the milling machine and soon I'll be running mix and I'm a bit nervous about that but after watching this video it doesn't seem like its a big deal. Thanks for sharing, and I'm sure I'll watch this a 100 more times.

Sorry for the very late update. I wasn't new to the whole trucking industrie I've had my class A for roughly 4 years prior to when I commented on this video and was making deliveries to local grocery stores. I had a opportunity to switch paths a little with a job opportunity that offered more money in this field of work and been doing it since 2015 but only doing the dirt side of things until I got asked to run the truck for a big paving company called Brox. And been doing it pretty much ever since haven't got out the industry can make great money during busy season, there's a ton of overtime, at one point I was running the truck night and day.

cool video. I work as a loader op at an asphalt plant so pretty cool to see the other side when we send mix out. see a lot of comments on diesel fuel yea EPA dont let us use diesel we have to use "approved agents" but what they dont know wont hurt. only downside to diesel it breaks down the AC in the mix and will uncoat the rock. but using it in moderation ehh dont see a problem.

Almost how we do it here, except for the covers we use is a different set up where is slides back using cables on both sides, we don't have to strap it down like you do. We climb up on the gantry and spray out our own bodies at 90% of the plants, and use a different product supplied by the plant to spray out our bodies. Every thing is the same. I have observed in the US the benefits for using the cover system that you use. I don't need to worry about that when profiling, as I have a camera in the back. lol a big taboo here too to stop and grab a feed when loaded with Asphalt too, but when your on the go, one needs to keep those worms at bay...

Tandem drivers got laid off for winter, semi drivers got to haul rock to the cement plant during winter! But then after 2.5 years in the semi, I got laid off! Had to go over the road trucking to pay the bills! Been doing that for 12 years now!

Hey brother. Great video. I haul hot mix in an end dump trailer. It was cool seeing all the little differences you fellas in the tandem do. I gotta say, I’d rather pull a side to side tarp than do that snap rack stuff. Maybe that’s just because that’s what I know. Our pusher seriously gets his panties in a bunch if we stop loaded, but I guess that’s a company policy thing. Never understood that when we still have to stage up and sit for 2 hours on the road, but I guess there’s a reason. Don’t have to understand, just comply as long as the check clears, right? 😂 Anyway, cool vid, stay safe out there.

You can buy spray bottles that double spray. Meaning they spray when the handle is pulled and again when it’s released. Makes saturating a surface literally half the work. I use them for detailing and over the course of hundreds of sprays can save you a lot of hand fatigue over weeks and months.

Do I need a certain length bed to haul asphalt? Wondering if I can get away with using a 15ft box

I used to haul asphalt with an old R-model Mack and a dump bed back in the early 90's. As I recall, a rainstorm or a flat tire could really ruin your day. Oh yeah, a state trooper could also give you the blues if he caught you using diesel fuel..which they never did, of course! LOL

@@robbleitner8556 We used diesel to keep the asphalt from sticking to the bed, which was highly illegal,. They used to set up stings in the vicinity of the asphalt plants . Extremely expensive ticket if you got caught. Many did..just not me! Lol

consider a garden sprayer for your lubricating agent. Very good video my friend.

Yea i know i do have one, But other then having to refill it more often the small spray bottle is easier use. And other drivers do not respect others personel property when that driver is out for the day. And sometimes they end up missing....

No. It's an approved agent as you can't use diesel. It looks like diesel, smells like diesel and you refill the bottle when you fill the truck but it isn't diesel ;) Well that's what an ol' driver told me recently lol

I’ve hauled a couple thousand loads from of mix. In the morning , while the trucks warming up I’ll soak those corners with fuel oil. It’s better if you can get the fuel oil to get behind the sh__ in the corners. I’ve been able to get the corners to eventually come loose but I would spray the sh__out of them every chance I got . Fu__ that soap , it’s useless
