Asphalt labor's work very hard in hot sun. But Concrete workers pouring a big ass floor. Straight edging and raking heavy crete for half the day then finishing off the slab is way more work. But still have mad respect for the black gold layer.

Its all hard work you can pass out doing asphalt work its usually 95 degrees out in the summer down here in Boston,ma and the asphalt is usually 4 to 500 degrees but after awhile you get use to it you just got to drink plenty of water and stay cool it pays very good money plus excellent benefits in the union.

Actually it messes up the mix moving it around like that now all the bigger rocks are up top and sand is at the bottom

I was thinking the same thing. Playing with the mix so much gets rid of the sand and brings up the rocks. And your joins look horrible

you gotta get your rocks off , they're just raking The larger rocks off the surface bring them back to a low spot Or right off ,this will seal up the surface better and make it more Water proof and looks nicer plus there keeping the asphalt hot with the torch

Ok to all of you amateurs commenting and the guy in the video there should have been a guy on the roller pinching the seem and the guy on the event you can’t be going over the same spot 50 times you’re separating the sand and the stone it’s going to look like a rough patch also by stepping on the asphalt you’re actually declining the temperature and making it gummy

so im a year out of highschool and on tuesday i have an interview with an Asphalt company on tuesday, i will most likely be starting out as a shoveler/laborer, anybody got any tips to get me going? my old man said something about diesel on your boots and shovel to keep the asphalt from sticking. Anything more would be 100% appreciated.

TheHardMan Yeah go to school for construction technology. Show up early, stay late and learn everything you can. Start a side job doing patches on driveways and in 5 years start laying your own paving. But 1 truck, pay all your bills on time, get one client, treat them well and keep adding 1 client per quarter...

What a mess . they let the material get cold , roller should of been right on it. They also brought all the rocks to the top playing with it to much . .... I'm guessing it unraveled due to poor compaction.

Quit playing with it so much! The stones are being brought up. Use a hard cherry wood lute much lighter and more precise! And get that roller on it!

should be using wheelbarrows and hot piling asphalt easier to keep grade and at least a plate tamper right on it. walking in it is creating semi compacted areas that won't compact as much as areas they didn't walk on causing uneven surface. jmop.

I,m an old boy with over 40 years in this industrie. I'll give all you kids out there a life lesson on how it works . On a paving crew your just another disposable body. Don't be a hero, If the boss finds out your a skilled rake you'll get stuck there forever and never get a chance to move forward. Play stupid, stay away from the finish rake worst fuck'n job on the face of the earth. Pay attention!!! Get one of the old boys to teach you how to finish role. Park your ass and don't move! Move forward from there, learn all the machines. You'll get better pay , more respect and always be in high demand with any company you work with and most important, never break your back again to make some one else rich. One more thing, Never Forget Safety First!!

why is your shovel man standing on the asphalt, i cant stand that when i rake, then you got a man tourching the edges, the edges shouldnt have been rolled thats how you create seems. They look professional but they got a long way to go. And buy a paving if you're going to install a driveway and when you're roller man rolls it down then you tamp your edges! No driveway should even need a tourch.
