Aspiration Pneumonia | Is Dysphagia Always To Blame??

Hi My mom is 87 yrs old and has dementia stage 3. Right at this moment she is at the Greenwich Hospital diagnosed with Pneumonia by aspiration. I watched your video and has made me even more suspicious of my mom’s diagnosis, (Pneumonia by aspiration). My mom doesn’t have any health complications like blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, heart disease, ect but dementia and arthritis. She never coughed, choked or had any swallowing problems while eating. Never did. She was even taken fish oil capsules which are big in size. My mom had a good appetite for a woman her age and dementia state, she was eating a lot and the same type of food I eat as she has no dietary restrictions and she never was fed with soft related foods as purées. My mom three weeks ago (December 30, 2024) got the Flu and Pneumonia by aspiration as diagnosed by the drs here at the Hospital. Now she is not allowed to eat and drink and I was told by the drs there is nothing they can do for her here, at the Hospital. Please, I will appreciate your professional opinion and how could I proceed in my mom’s case ASAP as my mom is being send to Hospice care. Thank you

Hi Theresa Richard, thankful to have discovered your incredibly informative channel. But do you have a video about oral care for dysphasia? Another video says do not use toothpaste for those w/ swallowing difficulties. My interest is for my mother. In the hospital they used those “Dentips” by Medline which are treated w/ “Dentrifice”. But I don’t want to use flouride products or the other ingredients of stannous flouride or triclosan. Do you have other suggestions? I also need to buy a suction toothbrush. The one I mostly find when searching is that “Oral lean G100”. Don’t know if I missed an installment of yours regarding oral care but if not hope to see one soon. Also Mom has upper dentures & i don’t anything about removing, cleaning & re inserting dentures. Thank You for any feedback. Searching for help & info.

My pulmonary Dr is treating me for aspiration pnuemonia with no antibiotics or steroids. I was told I need to drink thickened liquids to prevent further problems. I am concerned, don't I need an antibiotic for this current pnuemonia?
