Or it couldn't? Hard to beat the horribleness of Assad regime? Yes, as in all things life, much to be concerned about. Thanks.

There are reports, not confirmed, that the Russians 'stole' it from him when he arrived in Moscow. :)

Where did Assad stole $ 2 billion, when Syria was under western sanctions with medieval infrastructure and primitive lifestyles . We know former Afghan President Ghani stole American money- cash, some left scattered at the airfield where he fled . Is he not in USA, on state pension ?

@danchokonstantinov6735 The Assad family has been stealing Syrians blind for 50 years. Have you not seen the evil mans palaces, car collection, etc. Assad's car collection made Kadyrof look positively restrained. Mind you Assad is an amateur compared to Putin and his gang, who have robbed the Russian people blind for years. Putin has stolen far more than Assad has in a fraction of the time.

Unfortunately Russia would never give him up. Unless they offered to keep their bases I don’t see it though.

"pave the way towards jihadist extremism in Syria"......YES that is who has just took over. It's already happened. Out of the frying pan into the fire...depressing for Syrians, especially Syrian women.

Instead of panic journalism why don't you wait and see how it goes.

Given that the leader of the main rebel faction used to be sympathetic to ISIS, and in the area that he controlled religious minorities, women and homosexuals are being persecuted now, given that there are a myriad other heavily armed Jihadist groups jockeying for power, and with the legacy of Libya and Afghanistan to learn from, I don't see how you can argue that this is 'panic journalism'.

"wait and see" So you don't believe in journalists discussing what the future might bring? Most people think about the future to plan their lives and this might be helpful to someone.

Sure, it could, but the future is unwritten. The bar was pretty close to the ground under Assad.

Could this situation rise to the top of their national agenda? After all, he walked away with a staggering $2 billion left on the table! So, what’s the game plan to turn this around?

This expert thinks we should worry about ISIS while excusing a group which is not too different from ISIS and is in power right now in Syria. Unfortunately she also thinks the Syrian army was largely Shia which is certainly false.

Syrians had electricity 1 hour per 24 hours. Now no electricity, no running water, no sewage, no revenue for any government agencies , but USA will profit from syrian oil sales . Profit at the expense of the poorest ! Or the poorest should be transported to UK for life on benefits ?
