The AR is often nicknamed "Sentinels of the North East" and "Friends of the Hill People". It is the oldest paramilitary force in India, originally raised in 1835 as Cachar Levy, a militia to protect tea gardens and the fertile plains of Assam against unruly tribes. Its scope increased with the expansion of British Raj in Northeast India, and it was used against insurgencies in the region. The force was redesignated as Assam Frontier Police in 1883, Assam Military Police in 1891, and East Bengal and Assam Military Police in 1913. It got its present name in 1917. After independence, the AR functioned under the Ministry of External Affairs. Its operational control was transferred to the Indian Army after the Sino-Indian War of 1962. It came under the administration of Ministry of Home Affairs in 1965, with the Army retaining operational control Over the course of its history, the Assam Rifles have served in a number of roles, conflicts and theatres including World War I, where they served in Europe and the Middle East, and World War II, where they served mainly in Burma. After the Chinese annexation of Tibet, the Assam Rifles were tasked with manning Assam's section of the Tibetan border. They were also instrumental in maintaining law and order in Arunachal Pradesh. As we all know Assam Rifles is not categorically called a CAPF entirely thus its recruitment process for its officer cadre does not happen through the CAPF exams. The organic Assam Rifles cadre officer going for the rank of Assistant commandant needs to go through a departmental examination and then the same SSB which a candidate going for the Army officers entry has to go. Then, further, those recommended bunch of candidates in SSB coming for the AR officer cadre are sent to the ACC wing in IMA. The way forward after this is, at a successful completion of the laid tenure course, the AR, (AC) officers are commissioned along with the regular Indian Army officers, from the IMA during a POP. This should have been made very clear here in this video. Unlike joining the Assam Rifles in OR ranks, one has to go through the formal selection methodologies as any other CAPF but not for the officer cadre.

I am of the view that the Asam Rifles is adminstratively under the Home Ministry but operationally it is under the Defence Ministry. The Assam Regiment is solely under the Defence. In other words operationally both the Assam Rifles and the Assam Regiment are under the Defence Ministry. It appears that the Narrator of the script of the video did not highlight this point to the audience. Can the producer of this video check with both the Home Ministry and Defence Ministry to verify and rectify this discrepancy?

I don't think you need to crack CAPF to join Assam Rifles as an officers. All officers in Assam Rifles join on deputation from Army.

The way forward after this is, at a successful completion of the laid tenure course, the AR, (AC) officers are commissioned along with the regular Indian Army officers, from the IMA during a POP. This should have been made very clear here in this video. Unlike joining the Assam Rifles in OR ranks, one has to go through the formal selection methodologies as any other CAPF but not for the officer cadre. Although the officers coming in Assam Rifles are the regular Indian Army officers on deputation, even besides that AR has its own cadre of officers too. This should be kept in mind and they are selected through the above mentioned process.

For its organic officer cadre till now there is no direct recruitment from external exams, its only through the process stated above.
