Ι thunk they didn't want it to become bigger than it turned out to be because of hardware limitations or they were afraid of players becoming bored.... In Origins and Odyssey they deleted big chunks of land too for the same reason

I think it was supposed to be where Ezio finds Piero de Medici between Sequence 12 and 13. If you look on the database images of Venice, the island is way closer to the Dorsoduro than it is in the actual game. Like, close enough that you could easily jump across to it.

Finally, an excellent close-up look at Giudecca in AC2... And I guess the team's interpretation of San Giorgio Maggiore, given the church and campanile at the start of the video seeming to be on its own little island? Wish we had more of the map to explore in 2! Or a return to Venice in a free roam setting, given it's been 14 years since AC2...

There’s actually a way to get out of bounds on the last mission of AC2 when you’re in Rome. It involves grabbing a ledge at a specific angle. The amazing part about the glitch is that you can see the courtyard that you pass through in the first mission of AC: Brotherhood as well as the pine cone chamber that’s used to house the Apple of Eden.

I was rewatching this video, and could not think how STUPID Ubisoft was for not converting this into a Multiplayer map for AC Brotherhood and AC Revelations. I mean they had a whole map available that was unused, and it seems quite suitable for MP's game modes. I know that they already had the San Marco Square, but it was too small and open, hence too restrictive, at least compared to other maps of ACMP.

Holy sh*t, you're right! But remember that they're the same people who included in a secret vault move for parkour in Assassin's Creed 1, didn't include it in any tutorial and removed it in AC2.
