This is an understatement there are so many layers to this. So the main theme that everyone loves is a variation of the Dies Irae. An old Latin sequence that dates back to the 13th century and translates to "The Day of Wrath". Music was added to this sequence and it was used during Requiem Masses (Funeral Masses) around the time this game is set. So it fits the time period. It modern times the Dies Irae (in music form) is used in film and television as an omen of death. A few famous examples are the opening theme to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shinning and the ring wrath theme from The Lord of Rings. It's perfect because with every tower you burn not only do you free the district. It's a death omen to the Borgia family and Ezio is the harbinger.

Absolutely stunning OST- one of my personal favorites from the game, along with "Echoes of the Roman Ruins." It's so eerie, foreboding, and gives off a sense of dread. This is a perfect OST for the Borgia family, as they have a very dark, corrupted control over Rome, and are also extremely power-hungry. Both AC2 and AC: Brotherhood had the best storylines and soundtracks out of the entire Assassin's Creed franchise.

This music is great, but I think assassin’s creed brotherhood uses it too much. It should be reserved for special occasions not as random ambient music. I LOVED the ambient music of the second game. It was subtle, pretty emotionally neutral and not too dramatic and not too light hearted. I think that is the point. It's not meant to relax you like the ambient themes in AC2 cause the cities in AC2 were kinda free cities, and the templars influenced it only from the shadows. But Rome at the time when Ezio arrives, is a city that is under direct control of the templars. You are on enemy territory and you can literally see the poverty of the people when arriving there by all the shops being barricaded with blanks, and poor people beging you for money. This track captures the feeling of a city in chains very well: the hopelessness of the people, the constant danger and the power of the borgia ruling this town.
