Jacob should've had 3 flash back levels instead of the ripper. And for completion of the dlc story, we should've unlocked Jacob for free roam and all side quests. Jacob should've also had half the final level with Evie. That would have been fair considering the main game.

When i first played this, i expected a twist: That Jack was actually the dark side of Jacob's mind. At some point his tendancy towards mindless violence in the base game caused his personality to split in two. I think it could have been so much cooler to have that be the story. Why is Jacob missing? Cuz the Jack personality took over his mind! It would explain why we can play as him, since we definitely dont have Jack the Ripper's DNA. And Evie at the end would have to rectify her hate for Jack with her love for her brother. Does she finish him off? Does she somehow bring the real Jacob to the surface? So many possibilities! ... But nope, Jack's just an assassin... It was such a huge let down for me in its humdrum simplicity.

Yes, thats why passive points dont work, even if you are level 10 and have allocated passives, they are made only for Blighters, oversight from developers side, because you can see on minimap that these gangmembers in purple are detected as green markers (green ally rooks in main game), so its messed up. First time i noticed something is wrong that enemy gangs started to pick fight with me on streets, even though i have passive point that removes it. But i think main story passive tree does not work for DLC, because Evie does not go into transparent mode when on stealth mode. Probably only Fear passive tree is used. Same as World War memory is messed little - Lydia Frye under skill tree is identified as Evie, probably they didnt had will to invest time to fix it.

I think the best part of the DLC, was playing as an actual historical villain, who's identity was soo unknown. I think it was so dumb the way they made Evie non lethal. Like, it felt that throughout the story they tried to hint that her methods were twisted and not so different from those of Jack, and it could have been interesting if they didnt make it hard to actually kill people. Evie just punches them. Brutal assassinations are just takedowns and normal assassinations are just takedowns. This makes Evie even less brutal than she was on the main game. Shes basically a saint inside the brotherhood in that dlc. Only way to kill enemies is with the gun or with throwing knifes. Which would be fine tbh, if the animations for assassinations werent THE SAME AS THE MAIN GAME. Its SO lazy. You see Evie gently stabbing someone in the stomach, or slicing theirt throat, or breaking their fucking neck, just to hear a sound that resembles a stone hitting a brick wall. And then the enemy does the regular death animation just to snap into a knocked-out position. It was so akward I ended up rushing the main story abusing the very op fear system. And I love that Jack was an assassin but oh god his backstory was so rushed and stupid. "Templars killed my mother. Jacob, who later was a father to me, didnt save her cause he was too busy LIBERATING LONDON, and even though he did kill the man responsible (Starrick), therefore avenging my mothers death, I still am gonna become his aprentice to learn his assassin tactics only to turn against him and start killing RANDOM FEMALE ASSASSINS (not that random okay theyre Jacobs apprentices) just to hurt him. Wouldve been much better if they said that his mothers death was so gruesome and that he found her dead next to Jacob who was investigating the murder, and thinking he was gilty, he couldnt handle it and went insane. Jacob adopted him as his apprentice later on and Jack hid his madness to learn how to be a perfect assassin and get revenge on who he thought killed his mother. Such a simple and kinda cliche story, but much more credible than "boo hoo you didnt save my mommy so now I am a psychopath serial killer". As some exrtra points, why is he so strong? Jacob was master assassin when Jack was at his prime. Jacob is a very skilled assassin considering he managed to do what he did in London. He never got seriously injured and was a walking killing machine. So how is Jack able to overpower him in HAND TO HAND COMBAT? Jacobs specialty?? Its not like Jacob was 60, he was only 40. He was very clearly still fit, such as Evie. Evie, who was indeed able to win ONE TO ONE against Jack, even though melee combat was her weaker side. Did the twins switch roles here or something? And finally, in the final fight, why is stealth the way to end the ripper? Like, are we forgetting that JACK HAD EAGLE VISION???? YOU CANT STEALTH YOUR WAY OUT WHEN YOURE FACING SOMEONE WITH ISU GENES I THOUGHT THIS WAS CLEAR. Unless he for some weird reason decided not to use eagle vision against the most skilled assassin in London. Overall as you said, huge potential that kinda got wasted by rushed writing and gameplay mechanics. Fear system is cool, but npcs are idiotic. They run in circles. Its very anticlimatic. Non lethal Evie is fine, but her knockout animations are reused kill animations with a dumb brick sound. Jacobs development was by far the best part of the dlc and they cut it to a 5 minute gameplay sequence and a couple of cutscenes because they needed Jack to be stronger for no real reason so he could keep rippin around. Meh

The dlc hit me especially hard when I played a few weeks ago. For those who didn’t put it together, Jack backstory is that his mother was murdered and due to the resulting trauma, he was condemned to Lambeth Asylum as a child. Asylums were nightmareish in Victorian times and Lambeth Asylum is one of the worst. The abuse he suffered there further turned him into what he is now, and Jacob broke him free and took him in. I also had to experience the hell of a mental ward. Nowhere near as bad as what probably happened to Jack, but it was enough to destroy me. I struggle with violent thoughts and passion for justice that I fear would result in casualty if not contained. I’m not ashamed to say I want my abusers dead. This DLC shook me to my core because I saw myself in Jack. The inhuman things he did I don’t believe myself capable of, but had things been a little different or had my moral compass been just a little more skewed, I could have turned into him. I could have become a monster. And that’s what fucked me up the most.

Back when this DLC first came out, me and my mate had a theory we were really disappointed never turned out to be true. You keep the story basically the same, with Jack chasing after Jacob and "killing" him at the start. Eve arrives and is investigating her brothers disappearance and has no idea who Jack could be. Near the end of the game when Eve comes face to face with Jack it's reveled Jack IS JACOB. He's lost his mind (maybe added by the fact Eve left him for india) and that fight at the start was the Jack part of his mind taking over. He's lost sight of himself and the Jacob part of his personality is Dead and there's just Jack. I think that would have been a gut retching reveal AND would have added to the mystery angle of Jack the ripper.

I'm glad you liked it. Of the AC games I've played, none had DLCs that I could bear to finish. Especially in Origins and Odyssey, and those games deserved better than that. In Origins I did finish the Hidden Ones, but found its plot unremarkable. But in the Curse of the Pharaohs, I got down into the dark underworld and the blue light hurt my eyes, the constant darkness depressed me, and I know I was near the end, but had to put it down. Odyssey had two horrible DLCs that ruined the memory (no pun) of having such a great time in the base game. I guess I did my own version of desychronization (no pun). Elysium was too sunny, Hades made me feel as if I was breathing hot ash, but when I defeated Herakles with only the ghost arrows of Artemis ability and never even entered his lair, he taunted me at first as being a coward (guilty) but when his XP was wearing thin, he shouted, "Respect! You fight like an Argonaut!" I thought, wtf, this is just wrong. I may go back to the legacy now that I'm so invested. At 2,000 hrs and level 147 (99 being the max and 48 on the Mastery levels) and equipped with the Mallet of Everlasting Flame, which is the most absurdly powerful weapon in the entire game, I can defeat elites and bosses including unfair mercenaries just with arrows and a few hits with the Mallet, I rarely need to run or go for concealment. Might be a bit of a masochist, but I'll just cop to being a victim of the Bleeding Effect.

Overall, I liked this DLC. While I have no issues with the tone and atmosphere of the main game, as a massive, gloomy, washed-out city being the setting of a whole game sounds rather bland to me, I did enjoy the difference in that of the DLC. Honestly, I don't think the DLC would have been as good if the main game had the same atmosphere, because then it would seem like Jack is barely affecting anyone, rather than terrifying all of Whitechapel and turning it into a depressing hellscape. I did like Jack as a character, both for his incredible design and performance and his decent story, which is about as good as any integration of historical villains in these games has ever been to me. One thing I really liked about the story was that they didn't go with the "Jacob is the Ripper" angle. Aside from the fact that that would feel like the hate sink to end all hate sinks, as it completely spits in the face of his established personality, it would take some real extensive retconning to explain why Jacob was allowed to train Lydia and live past WW1 if he spent 1888 brutally raping and murdering prostitutes/assassins. Edit: Speaking of Lydia, she is born just a few years after this, and she is Jacob's granddaughter, so Jacob has already had a child by the time of this DLC; might have been interesting if the game acknowledged that in any way. As for things I disliked, the gameplay had some minor issues. One, why can't Evie use her hidden blade? Whenever she "assassinates" someone, it just knocks them down with a "bonk" sound effect. If the developers were really insistent that you do not kill police, despite every assassin we've ever played as slaughtering them by the thousands, then they could have just added this feature for them. Instead, they did this for every enemy. Two, the weapons. I got pretty tired of the brass knuckle animations after spending ten hours grinding for XP in the fight club, so having them be the exclusive weapon here was not appreciated; I wanted the cane swords. Three, I too wanted more of Jacob.

Jacob must have had his child/children not so long after the main story, because Lydia was born in the 1890s so her parents would've been born around the 1870s at least. So it would've been cool to have seen him/her either helping Evie in some way or even just a mention. I also would've liked to have had more time with this older Jacob, him being a lot more serious and mature would've helped people like him a lot more and give him the recognition he really deserves.

At least they didn’t try to make Shay Cormac Jack the Ripper for the whole “hunting assassins” story for this DLC. As ridiculous as that sounds, I can see Ubisoft doing that.
@themagicalblingbling Жыл бұрын
I found this DLC to be extremely lackluster. They could have done an interesting reveal about the Ripper's actual identity, made him a deranged gentleman doctor type (like Malfatto in AC Brotherhood), tied the Ripper to the royal family / government, or labelled an actual historical person as the Ripper. After all, Assassin's Creed has always thrived on and is rooted in conspiracy theories. AC Brotherhood even labelled a living figure as George W. Bush as a puppet for the Templars, so clearly Ubisoft has no scrupules about stamping historical figures, whether alive or dead, as villains. Instead it turns out Jack the Ripper is actually the fictional... Jack... the lad... It baffles the mind how boring that reveal is. What a pathetic bit of writing, an absolute low for the series.

I think the best part of the DLC was them blurring the line between monster and assassin because I was constantly grossed out by playing as Jack, but feeling so smug about liberating brothels with my mass-murdering Evie who, only in the final confrontation, uses the same technique (with the slicing) as Jack, screaming how she wasn’t like him. I didn’t care for Jack’s poor backstory, but that part was brilliant 🤓

One thing I'm still curious about this DLC is if Jack took one of Jacob's eyes.
@dennndennnn10 ай бұрын
If the DLC actually had jack the ripper gameplay for more than 3 sequences and if it was historically accurate in terms of the ending I would agree, It was so fun to play as jack. It's so disappointing that he has like 10 minutes of gameplay in his OWN DLC.
@dennndennnn10 ай бұрын
But yeah the fact that those 3 sequences are much more fun than the actual game is crazy.

Slightly off topic but just wanna put this out there for anyone interested in the Jack the Ripper history: the comic mini-series From Hell by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell is absolutely amazing.

Ac syndicate could basically have been an assassins creed horror game. Imagine this. The streets are full of criminals, poor hungry factory workers. Disease, cholera etc. London is completely smogged, so the dark streets make it impossible to see anything, meaning you have to stick to the rooftops to stay safe. The gang could have functioned as a sort of "insurance policy", if your gang has no influence in the area, you would be in constant danger. They could have reused/improved the mechanic from Rouge where you would have to listen to whispers to find people trying to kill you.

Honestly, hard disagree. They took one of the most fascinating unsolved mysteries in history, one with MASSIVE potential in Assassin's Creed lore, and turned it into a Batman Scarecrow story. From a gameplay standpoint it made neat improvements but it was ruined by the entire DLC shitting the bed narratively. This was always the worst DLC for me until Wrath of the Druids came out.

@Kinosho_Kawakami Жыл бұрын
actually no, it doesn't make Jack more terrifying not knowing his motivations. imagine yourself as someone he has it out for. if you don't know Jack's motivations and who he is then he's just a psychopath serial killer, but if you do know then he becomes a lot more dangerous because you know that person and what drives them, if they've gone rogue, mental or hardcore angry and wanna destroy your life. there's no protection against someone you know because they know you as well and they know what makes you tick, what fears you have, where they can hurt you. that you should be fearful of.

No way this DLC is better than the main game and this DLC is so buggy that it is almost unplayable, sure the main games story isn’t much better and jack is better villain than the guy with a mustach, but the story and gameplay is still so mid

Ac syndicates main story was based in 1868 and in the dlc it's based in 1888 that's why Evie and Jacob are older

actually trimming down the weapons is my least favorite part of the dlc i love the 3 weapon varieties in the base game though i get it the dlc is short they kinda had to trim down the weapons (that and the fact the Rooks are on Jack's side now) and of course like everyone else i wish it was longer

The fear method, maybe used in hexe. And there might be more brutality. More dark. I doubt it’ll be a horror game. Also, this is a franchise, not a series.

Like a lot of others, I'm playing Syndicate after the current gen patch. The only game in the series I like is Origins. I played yo to 3 as they came out and dropped each of them. They just always played like assssssssss. Bad combat, bad stealth, bad missions. Syndicate isn't perfect, but it's close. I'm at work, about 25% done w the main game, and I can't wait to get back home to play it some more. It's a bummer this uses a winter setting, however. I abhor the cold.
