Its fair if newer games dont have dual hidden blades they were never a thing till altair utilized that into combat and was highly improved by ezio

Assassins Creed, should never have gotten number leveling. The current projects are so far removed from this style of gameplay it is actually insane that their consumers let them continue to have the same branding. We should have seen continued development of guard AI and equipment, more interesting gadgets and tools, and the addition of more stealth elements (a la sound systems for different types of roofs, more disguise play, and premaking traps, both deadly and nonlethal) instead we got numbers floating over peoples heads to determine who could be "assassinated" and a sword that does less dmg than this other sword with a higher number. I honestly thought we'd see the games develop into a mirrored anthology where we would bounce between modern time assassins with modern style tools and the genetic memories of the past. Dropping the modern stuff wasn't a bad idea once they fucked it up and made us not care about the modern characters, but they should have leaned even harder into the Assassin's Creed being a belief that some people, those with too much power, with too much wealth, who saw no repercussions when they committed crimes against those without, would find their life ended by an Assassin with no affiliation, with no benefit to be gained by themselves, and each game was each characters journey to becoming the force of nature in the white hood. Either by achieving personal revenge or by being scouted by the "organization".

You are very correct and I wish we'd seen the things you describe. But I came to nitpick on a minor point. Brotherhood already had different swords that did different amounts of damage based on numbers. Those numbers just are between 1 and 5, and honestly I don't really see the effect while playing, because most fights go from a counter attack right into a kill streak where everyone dies with one button.

@@Pingviinimursu Sure, but there are two things demarking the difference. First, As you just said, even the "1" swords are still lethal even to late game enemies if you use "skill" moves compared to spamming attack. This is an impossibility in the newer ones. Using a level 2 or 5 sword against lvl 30 enemies is a quick recipe for breaking immersion. (I'm not certain but I am pretty sure the newer games have examples of the same weapons with differing numbers, so the same weapon but one is lvl 10 and one is lvl 12 so slightly better.) Additionally, enemies play out their higher health pools by having stronger guards (parrying or blocking) or by visually being heavily armored. Not particularly true in the newer ones. Second, swords in real life had varying quality and lethality, and while AC has never let you hone or maintain a weapon to buff its stats, it is implied that the stronger swords are more finely crafted and maintained better. In the newer ones you can find a very fine looking lvl 10 sword that is implied to be very well crafted and maintained, but the next level 20 enemy you kill will drop their basic weapon, and that "stock" or "common" weapon will likely be better than the very well crafted level 10 sword.

@@jamesman142 Yeah, absolutely. Hacking at enemies over and over definitely breaks immersion way easier. Even if the reality is that often the first good cut kills or incapacitates. And the increasing armor definitely helps sell the health.
