Looking at the microwave, do you think it is essential to have a cover panel between the cabinet that is above the microwave and the cabinet that is to the left and right of the microwave?
@maxplus28492 жыл бұрын
If your cabinets are 30in high, and you DON'T have the deco strip on the bottom then you don't, BUT if you do have deco strip and your cabinets are 30in or 40in high then yes, you do need cover panels you've listed.

can i ask you a question? what is the height to the bottom of the upper rail? because in the user manual of ikea did not explained well. thanks in advance.
@mikevandenbosch90812 жыл бұрын
Bottom of the rail is 2 3/8 inches below top of cabinet. So, for base cabinets, it would (usually) be 32 1/8" above finished floor. There are exceptions occasionally
@maxplus28492 жыл бұрын
The standard for base cabinet is 34 1/2" - now, you set the top of the rail 1/4" below that measurement (so, your measurement for top of the rail should measure 34 1/4" of the finished floor) Same function for the upper cabinets with the standard calling for 94 1/2 for 40"(!) upper cabinets, and 84 1/2" for 30"(!) upper cabinets.

Can I ask about the decision to put in the flooring after the cabinets? I’ve been doing a lot of research, and a lot of people do the floor before the cabinets. If this just preference?
@maxplus28493 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes absolutely. Either way works, it is just your preference. In Europe they usually do the flooring before the install the cabinets; in the USA most of the people complete the flooring after they install the cabinets.
@mikevandenbosch90812 жыл бұрын
Ceramic or hardwood flooring usually goes in first. However, floating floors (like click vinyl etc) usually go in after because they suggest that the cabinets should not be on the floating floor (feet should go on the subfloor).
@jennisosa60762 жыл бұрын
I’m an interior designer and neither answers are correct. Deciding to put the flooring prior to cabinets is solely based upon whether you wish for the floor to run under the cabinets. Flooring is need under appliances but not cabinets. If you don’t wish for the floor to run under the cabinets, you can conceal the gap with shoe molding or a trim piece if your toe kick is not tall enough.
@mikevandenbosch9081 Жыл бұрын
@@jennisosa6076 typical designer.... floating floors need to be able to expand and contract. If you install them first and then place the ( heavy) cabinets or an island on top of them, they can easily buckle when they swell up and cannot move. Leave installing to the experienced installers and stick to drawing your pretty ( but often severely flawed) pictures!

So depending on what the flooring is going to be, we set up the rails height pre-calculating the thickness of the flooring (there are different measurement standards for different types of flooring). I am a professional installer and I use professional tools. This is why in this video I am showing all the tools I am using to get the ideal result. One probably can install the kitchen using minimal tools, but who can guarantee the quality of the end result? About the floor and the countertop- as I mentioned before, they were done by another contractor, so this is why I did not video tape that.
@lynoreabbott1010 Жыл бұрын

@Paul_Halicki Жыл бұрын
I'm kind of shocked that someone would want to give up that much corner space (see 8:05 of the video). I had a similar situation, with just over 18" of space available next to my range. I put in a 36" cabinet and added a center post so the door could hinge from the center of the cabinet instead of the end. live.staticflickr.com/65535/52913290379_cc1e95b1bb_c.jpg live.staticflickr.com/65535/52912548192_d164772f94_c.jpg live.staticflickr.com/65535/52913582768_b4034932c1_c.jpg If you wanted drawers on the top, that would still be possible; the center post I added is a 2x4 with a strip of a spare side wall. simply extend the strip to the back of the cabinet to have supports for the drawers.
