There are no real puzzle-dependent tolerances like the launch had (with the rocket). So if you have to trim here & there for this puzzle that’s okay - it’s quite forgiving. After solving the puzzle, Im slightly confused on the purpose of the gold piece. You dont have to do anything to it to get the final diamond to retract.

SPOILER: You are supposed to slide the gold to the left, rotate the barrel 45 degrees, and slide the Gold back to the right, then complete rotating the barrel. I'm guessing are just extending the clip spring from the back of the box with your hands? In the final assembly of all 4 boxes you will not be able to access the back of the box, and it doesn't seem like something someone would intuitively press on unless they were the printer/assembler/creator of the box. @LeisureLuke2 жыл бұрын
They should be pretty tight. If yours are loose then just print them with 2 or 3 percent extra extrusion speed (or 0.03x more extrusion multiplier) so they print a little fat :D They have zero tolerance, they should fit tight - too tight to take off without a tool (*that was the idea anyway). Thanks for this great design. I’m kinda new to 3D printing so this was great to experiment. Everything turned out great but I do have a few notes. And I’ll try to avoid spoilers here. 😋 1) pin 2 broke at my first solving attempt. I might have used to much force here, but for the reprint I might use more infill. I was sort of lucky as I accidentally printed this part twice. 2) When you do the final action before opening the door, the last pin does stick a bit in it’s hole. The trigger could be a little big thicker here. 3) the part which holds the gold is a bit loose in it’s holder. So it tends to move up and down. This causes the gold to turn around instead of moving. Holding it by hand does the trick but the holder on the side could be a bit tighter. I must say that I’m printing in both PLA and PETG, was already happy having all the colors laying around. 🤪 Thanks again for the great job on this creation. I will surely check out your first two puzzles as well as I just hooked on here. Dave.
@LeisureLuke3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave! Thanks for the thorough breakdown! 1. I knew these pins would break. Curious - did it break at the top (from opening the door) or at the bottom? (from overturning the dial) 2. Make sure you're fully depressing the button on the side. Also double check that the SafeBar isn't coming loose. You may need to glue the safebar in... if that wiggles loose a little bit the 3rd pin (furthest from hinge) does tend to stuck. 3. Hmmm... interesting. Dave, I'd love if you could post pictures or a video of what you're seeing. I've reworked a few pieces to have "V2" on the end of them, but those don't sound like your issues, my guess is that's what you used. It sounds like there's a small chance, for all 3 of these, that you could be underextruding slightly. If you can post pictures to thingiverse, or a video to youtube I'll check it out. I will be remaking several parts for the final combined puzzle box, so all items are on the table for modification! Thanks again, we'll get this sorted. Also also, I'm assuming you're printing at 100% size? I'm certain issue #1 would go away at 150% size, but that's quite a bit more printing! Looking forward to your response! I like this feedback process!!!!!
@davefilet3 жыл бұрын
@@LeisureLuke First off all, I've printed the Heist at 150%. 1. The pin broke at the stop. The little thingy that is sticking out. 2. If I press the button in AND a little bit down, it opens up fine. But I guess you should just push it in. :) The safebar is good in place, and I think if you would use glue, changing broken parts will be a problem. 3. The parts look like they are printed correctly, so I don't think underextrusion is an issue. I will try to make a small video in the next few days a keep you posted.

Printed, assembled and solved. Thanks for another great design! Something kind of missed compared to your previous boxes was a clear and thematic goal/story for the final diamond-lock. "remove this lock" or "launch the ship and find the alien" were simple and thematic instructions to give to someone. "Break into the vault and move the blue diamond" isn't really as good as "Break into the vault and steal the gold". It would have been cool if the blue diamond did something heist-related when it moved. For example released something valuable. I only thought of this since you set such a high standard of the goals and themes with box 1-2 : )
@LeisureLuke3 жыл бұрын
100% agreed. Moving the diamond a little isn't much of a goal. My final design - where all the puzzle boxes go together in 1 larger frame dictates what the final move has to be for each box. In the final version the goal will be "move the 4 posts that have locked the lid onto the box, so you can open the box!" Each of the 4 posts have their own "story" per puzzle, but this one was weak :) haha. Great work on the print & assemble, glad it went well.

Sounds like you are over-extruding. This will make the parts fit super tight, or not at all. My Artillery Sidewinder overextended by about 10%. Most printers overexteude from the factory, which isn’t noticeable until you start printing low-tolerance mechanisms. The right way to “fix” this is to calibrate the e-steps of your 3D printer. You can also just start decreasing the extruder speed or extrusion multiplier. Which printer do you have? I have a test print I use… I should throw that thing on thingiverse.

let me try your test stl.. seems like less flow, didnt make a difference.. tried e-steps, and those are good.. idk what else i can do, besides higher temps... but thought that would make things worse

What’s your print speed? My tolerances are pretty bad at 80mm/s, so I end up print around 40mm/s. If that 1cm cube is above 10.1mm wide, you may still have to reduce extrusion speeds. Some PLAs compress and expand a bit, so you could try another filament. I would recommend even more reduced extrusion. My printers extrusion rates are between 85% and 92% from the way it came. If your cube is over 10.1mm wide you just need to dial it back more. I’d use 15% infill and 3 or 4 perimeter layers if you aren’t already.

@@LeisureLuke I am using 50mm for the speed. the parts were fitting now, but had problems with the springs still. I made the flow down to 92% and i still cannot get the cube to 1 cm.. think it is 1.2 and the holes are 98.9 100.5 102.3 So the flow doesnt seem to do that much..

@@LeisureLuke Is that cube 1x1x1 cm ? it seems like when i print it, it's more like 1.02x1.2x1.1

Done with the assembly. The door sticks out and doesnt close well or at all. Third pinlock is trying to escape the door on its own. I can open the door with just a tiny bit of force. The button is squished so hard it cant even be pressed Edit: I tried it many times now. It doesnt work and i simply cant believe that version you are showing is the one in the STL files. The top button cant be pushed in and if you do that by force its gonna get stuck. The door can be forced open with just 2 fingers. Waste of PLA as it is right now.

@Maaru, let’s get you sorted. 🥳 I haven’t changed the files and dozens of people have found success without the need to file or sand down parts. When several components are tight the culprit is usually over-extrusion. So, answer a few questions to get started: 1. Which printer do you have? (Most over-extrude by default… except prusa). 2. Have you printed any other of my puzzle boxes? 3. Do you have a calipers? I HIGHLY recommend getting a cheap one. Then print a 1cm cube and measure it. If your dimensions are +/- 0.1mm in all directions it should be “good enough” to print my puzzle boxes. 4. Have you messed with calibrating e-steps or z-axis offset? Might be time :) it’s easy! Don’t give up! This puzzle requires some accuracy and we’ll get you there. You’re not the first person to have this problem, and you won’t the last person to fix it 😉 Once dialed in, Most people say the side button is “too loose” 😕. I’ll send over or fix any files if needed 👍🏼

@@LeisureLuke I am printing on a Anycubic Vyper. No changes done with any offset settings. Dimensions on any print were so far on point.

@@maaru6976 If you're confident that the end dimensions are accurate, then I'm not sure where else to point you. There are 2 files for the door button - DO NOT USE V2, use the original, you should find more play there. The components all have 0.1mm tolerance between them if they do not move and 0.2mm tolerance between them if they do move. They also have a least 1 layer orientation in the direction of the movement so that there is no layer-line-binding. Perhaps check for "nubs". Other than that, I'm unfamiliar with that printer, but would be shocked if your dimensions from default were spot on. Send pics! LeisureLukeYT@gmail.com. If you can identify where you need it to be looser I'll make a 1 off file or update the current files.

Very sad after the printing of all parts. Everything is so tight. Assembly is impossible.
@LeisureLuke3 жыл бұрын
Ahhh - good news, that’s fixable. Bad news, most of those will have to be thrown. There is a build in gap between all the parts “tolerance” between 0.1mm and 0.4mm, so nothing should feel tight. Your 3D printer is likely overextruding. Maybe to do this from the factory by default. You can change your nozzle flow speed, calibrate your esteps, or do a number of other things. You should print something that is a known size - like a 1cm x 1cm x 1cm cube, measure it with a calipers, and it’ll probably be 1.04cm x1.04cm. Calibrating e-steps is the “right way” to remedy this. Basically you tell your printer to feed 10cm of filament through, put tape on the filament, and then measure how much it actually fed through. Then you put that result in your slicer, and WHAMMO! Problem solved. We’ve all been there, time to dial in that printer 😉 good luck!
