I wasted an afternoon´s shooting because I had not disabled the shutter button focus while using BBF. Thanks for the solve. Also, I had not realised the depth of field is so shallow, even for subjects 20m away, the DOF is only 25cms. I was always shooting wide open to blur the background. Great tips, much appreciated.🙏

at 11:55, In OM1mkii I assigned front lower button to choose AI focus detection type and front upper button to choose which object to focus on. Works good. Thanks Lee for your usefull video :)

EXCELLENT! Also shooting in jpg instead of raw.....a jpg file is 8-bit compared to RAW up to 16-bit. 8-bit stores RGB values ranging from 0-255 while 16-bit stores RGB values ranging from 0 - 65,535.

Depth of filed! Thanks. I tend to think about more light, lower f number, but of course. Cheers as always.

Thanks for a good eye-opener - I only rarely use my 75-300mm, because it is not particularly sharp - and yet - it has surprised me that many people recommend it as being OK. sharp (obviously for the price) while my pictures are not. I photograph mostly with my 8-25 (or to water) and am used to the m4/3's great advantage with great depth of field. Over the years (before PureRaw etc.) I have gotten used to using as low an ISO as possible, and thus also a small f:number. I'll have to get used to looking at the depth of field when choosing f: number Again - thanks a lot.

Yea, consumer lenses are fine for some, but for those expecting tack sharp, incredible images pro lenses are generally the way to go (there are some incredible non-pro lenses though and I have a few)! Appreciate your kind words!

Great video. Very helpful. :0) I’ll be looking in my menu for my frames per second and my SH2 settings. And maybe more specifically I’m wondering how pro capture coupled with that affects my auto focus. I use pro captureSH2 plus CAF for birds. I guess my question specifically is the camera continuously auto focusing in this mode?

Thank you Lee iv just started my bird photography adventure. Dof is not something i considered just using shutter priority to ensure i avoid the long lens woblies. This video is pounting me straight to the problem why im struggeling with sharpness. Been binging on your videos. Ironic that iv had photo phils for years for landscape and milkyway photo planing did not think to use the dof calculator for birds. Same old trap i suppose keep it wide open to keep iso down and shutter speed up. Kind of feel like a fool admitting this, but the proof is in the pudding same camera same lens and your photos turn out much better than most of mine. Thank you now if only we had some interesting birds in NZ to lure you over with.

I'm guilty. Too slow a shutter speed too often and too large an aperture. Maybe this video will help drill it into my head to pay attention to what I'm doing. Thanks for posting this.

I haven't tried DXO, but I might have to. The ISO's you're shooting at I've been afraid to use with any of my cameras!!!

But Lee that 150 to 400 mm lens when you go over 300 mil with it it deteriorates fast even when you’re very close. So I’m unable to see your argument.

That is one of the most absurd comments ever on my channel! There is zero degradation. Have you seen my images? I shoot mostly at 500mm. Pure nonsense.
