The best part is that once you die, the four options on the screen just so happen to be Retry You can't return to the title screen Start from beginning You can't end the game and presumably attempting to pick options 2 or 4 just put you back on Retry. Barring task manager or forcing your computer to turn off, there is literally no way out of this game.

And the Timer running out doesn't KILL you, it wins you the fight by default!, also the games are 5 or 6 stages long compared to one BS Stage so thats a reason for more overall loss, surprisingly one Touhou series mechanic that was left unaltered was that certain Spell Cards(the Special Patterns) will NOT spawn bullets within a certain range of the Player, so as to NOT have "Oh a bullet spawned in your chest, die now" moments

+aliultimate009 What makes Touhou a lot damn easier then this is the lives. Sure you'd die just as much but having more time on a boss means you have more time to learn patterns. THIS game meanwhile if you die at Marisa you have to go back to the start, you'll likely forget most of her patterns. The later parts of the game are a lot harder since you have no time to practice on it. If you released this game again but with the character having, oh I don't know, 3 lives? The death counter would probably be a third of that. (and I mean every single lost life would count as a death, not just a game over)

+Cloudmonkey I've played Touhou :) Some touhou games are more fair & some are overly difficult. The original games relies on your memory & timing fairly. Each one has a different system - some systems makes the game a lot easier. Some have a continue system of stage retry or in the middle of the stage.

The best part is that it's just a normal, fun boss battle at the end, with some really neat spell card designs. But that's evil in itself, because you have to go through 5 minutes of hell to get to it each time you make a small mistake.

Don't forget you also have to deal with the unique mechanic of instadeath if any phase of the fight is timed out instead of captured, making it even more stressful, and by proxy, making it artifically harder on the player's end.
