Not that anyone watching this on KZbin might care, but most of the music is tracked in from Leith Stevens' scores for DESTINATION MOON (1950) and WORLD WITHOUT END (1956).

I've heard this done in many early British horror films and a few B grade American films. I'm a musician that's how I picked up on it. Also I have seen footage (whole towns, including the same Mexican bandits re-purposed in two different Spaghetti Westerns that were filmed three years apart. They clearly never imagined computers and that their films would be streamed freely. (So funny when you see the footage of the same town reused) While we are on the subject. Spaghetti Westerns were using some very cruel horse stunts. When you see a horse do a nose plant they would tie ropes to the horses two font legs. Using long coils of rope, the horse would then run not knowing that rope was tied to its two front legs. American Westerns would do the same cruel horse stunts - but were much better at hiding the ropes.

If you want to see how they visually interpreted the most advanced space travel knowledge and theory in 1960, this is the movie for you! If you compare it to today’s movies, you will be disappointed. When the movie came out, the worlds collective knowledge of real space travel at the time was animals shot into space were finally coming back alive. A few years earlier they finally figured our how to get a rocket back from space without burning up, something some thought was impossible. Transistor radios had just been out for a couple years vs tube radios. Digital audio was 20 years away. Digital video was almost 30 years away. Considering the lack of common knowledge on the subject in 1960, they did a great job with visually interpreting then modern advanced knowledge and theory!

What I love is to watch one of those old space movies and when they launch, video of an early Atlas launch is used....and when the crew of 4 or 5 “astronauts” arrive in space.....they have multiple rooms and stories in their spaceship, racks upon racks of senseless electronic gear, four of five old Dumont Oscilloscopes (60 - 90 pounds each, showing meaningless sine waves and such). Each room on their spaceship has a 10 foot ceiling, they carry enough fuel to launch, travel to and then land on Venus or even Mars, and then fuel enough to re-launch back to Earth! Of course, one astronaut must die when they find the meaning of life, so there’s that weight savings. But on the other hand, one astronaut must be a girl, with immaculate makeup and hair no matter what their mission is, so that is a huge weight drag. In any case....that old Atlas sure was a versatile and capable booster!! We waisted money building the Saturn V, realizing it could have been easily done with only one Atlas!

You know what? In spite of all of it's shortcommings this is actually a surprisingly acurate movie as far as the sceince is concerned. A few examples: - They keep jabbering on about giro's. Stupid, ain't it? No it isn't! You can actually point the nose of your spaceship with the use of gyroscopes. - Since getting stuff into space with such technology is very expensive the insides of the ships are actually rather cramped, as they where / are in real life. - There is no cheap artificial gravity copp-out stuff here. When in the spaceships people move very carefully from beam to beam. Only when in the spacestation with the rotating core and on planets they move "normaly". How about that for good continuity! - Talking about continuity: Everybody of course understands that once in space all these ships are of reassembled into full 3 stage setups again. After the take of the ship's 3rd stage arrives at the space station. The commander then asks for the 2 replacement stages to be reattached and refueled before they leave! Check it if you don't believe me. It makes them able to carry much more fuel and you also never know if you have to restart from a planet with an Earth's strength gravity anyway. Since the rescue landing they make is however on Phobos, which is a small Mars Moon, they do not need to discard any of the new stages. See, it all adds up in the end! :-) - It's a pity they still use the old sound-in-space mistake though. Anthonio Margheriti , the director however corrected that in his next Sci Fi movie, called Battle Of The Worlds. Here an experimental electronic soundscape was dubbed over every external space shot. By the way: the very spaceship used here is blown up by aliens in that movie! - And yes, I am a total geek! :-)

Good to see Felix Leiter from Thunderball! (Rick) I see on this copy that they removed the stock footage of a car in a parking lot when the ship blows up. "I can make it. I'm getting lighter, I can MAKE it!" Booom!

I'm only a minute and a half into this film right now. My first peccadillo: M 12 is a globular cluster in the constellation Ophiuchus, not a galaxy. Then again, it's a Samuel Z. Arkoff production--I might as well expect, say, "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", "Lost in Space", or "Land of the Giants" to make sense.

What a great engaging film! Well written. It has nice values. And it does keep you watching. And you don't need any fancy CGI or anything. This sure and heck beats the self-indulgent emotional crap you get from Hollywood. Be nice if films returned to good old story telling. Thank you for posting!!

The embarked on a pretty long trip. The NEAREST galaxy to ours, Andromeda, is about 2.5 million lightyears away. So, even if they should travel at the speed of light it would take them almost an eternity to get there.

If only if it was that easy to to fly to one ship to another. But but back then they had no idea ,ii think they done a good job especially the magnetic boot imagine how thy would have made the movie without the gravity. Pertesons camera was just laying on table. But great fun to watch.

It's hard watching these kinds of movies without the MST3K riffs, and yes this would have made a good one. In regards to the view of 1960 space and space travel I remember all of this well. This was made one year before Yuri Gagarin's first manned space flight, one orbit around the earth. Then also in 1961 Alan Shepard accomplished a sub-orbital flight (punched a hole in the envelope). Yes the Soviets experimented with chimps and dogs (Laika) prior to Gagarin. And Rik Van Nutter (what a name lol) was the Felix Leiter CIA contact in Thunderball (each movie seemed to have a different actor in the part)

Rik Von Nutter's name is surely funny, but seeing Gaby Farinon in a space suit is a very nice trip down memory lane all the way back to the Sixties... it is not even a very sexy suit by the way... but seriously, this is an interesting attempt to do a serious sci-fi movie, you know: trying to do proper cramped spaceship interiors, zero gravity, no aliens or monsters, just a derelict atomic spaceship threatening to collide with the Earth... yeah, it's pretty crude and there is not much Science or even seriously presented space technology, but most of Italian sci-fi is much worse... I actually liked it.

The radio can't be much good if he has to keep fiddling with it. Why send a reporter when there's all this aggression towards him? He went without permission, no wonder they dislike him for not obeying rules. His reputation as a troublemaker must have gone before him. This film has everything, love, hate, heroes, asteroids, out of control spacecraft, Earth in danger, the only thing missing is some space aliens.

Never underestimate the photons. Gamma radiation consists of photons too.
@georgeclarke8137
@georgeclarke8137 3 жыл бұрын
Photons are essentially mass-less but they do have momentum and in that state they can produce pressure. Photons are waves and particles both. This has been proved by Scientists. I've always considered photons to be in a state called rest mass. Essentially in that state they do not exist. Once they are subjected to an electromagnetic field they become charged particles. Take a flashlight for example. When the flashlight is turned off they don't exist. When the flashlight is turned on, the photons become charged and provide the light that is emitted from the flashlight.
