Assos is the best-kept secret of Turkey’s Aegean, and was once the home of Aristotle

Aristotle’s former home, Assos (Behramkale in Turkish) is one the best but least known of Turkey’s many travel destinations. A magical combination sea-side setting, hilltop views, traditional stone houses and the ruins of one of Classical history’s most interesting cities. Its romantic but troubled past shaped more of the world than its citizens could ever had known. Assos is also conveniently placed on a particularly pleasant but overlooked section of Aegean coast, and is easily reachable from Istanbul or Izmir.
