Helpful and charitable conversation. The analogy of faith hermeneutic comes to mind for me in fleshing out some of these passages to preserve the impact of the free gift of righteousness in Christ.

Justin knocks it out of the park at 1:14:00 minutes in his response to the use of the word confidence. I can’t be any more confident in one’s visible works than another’s, for neither persons works answers the question of who possesses the spirit. If I am more confident in one’s faithfulness over another’s, then I am treating faith as a work.

Hello, as a young christian i'm having problem with a wandering heart, can anyone pray and intercede for me to have a new heart that loves the Lord more? Edit: the Lord bless you all!

A fascinating discussion. It was particularly interesting looking at examples of teachings and books. I would love to hear your take on Leonard Ravenhill. IMHO he his very overrated and people online seem to have a bizarre fascination with his bitter condemnation of the church.

Good discussion on James and Corinthians regarding the word “brethren”, especially in Corinthians. Paul is talking to believers. Some interpret “brethren” to mean fellow Jews. But these believers were Gentiles. In bringing this up, there are essentially two “camps” when it comes to who the audience is in the epistles. One side says that it’s addressed to the churches in general, meaning unbelievers are included in the assembly, and this is why Paul says to verify their faith. The other side says that the epistles are addressed to believers, whether faithful or unfaithful. It’s clear that the NT concept of church is ecclesia, or group of called out ones (ie. believers). We must not think of the word “church” in the contemporary sense. This is why knowing the audience is critical to understanding a passage.

According to Peter, what experience did everyone who died in the flood have, and why?
@AdamsTaiwanАй бұрын
They experienced certain judgement because their wickedness was great. But we must look at more than just Peter. In 2 Peter 2:5, it is mentioned that God did not spare the ancient world but brought the flood upon the ungodly people. Gen. 6:5,8 5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord

@@AdamsTaiwan But, we must look at 1 Peter 3:19, and 1 Peter 4:6 where we're told Jesus, through the Spirit, preached the gospel to those who died in the flood so that they may be judged according to men in the flesh AND LIVE ACCORDING TO GOD IN THE SPIRIT. God bringing the flood on the ungodly was NOT the end of the story. God judging men (all of us) according to the flesh is not the end of the story. Now that's GOOD NEWS!!😀😀😀
@AdamsTaiwanАй бұрын
@@fakeyououtdotcom2409 Yes, He preached. We know that there were 2 groups that were preached to that were dead (Luke 16:19-31). The wicked and righteous (by faith). There is nothing in this text that says that any changed. The result of the preaching and judgement could be that the wicked now know how deserving of God's wrath they are and the righteous know more clearly the basis of their righteousness. The gospel is for those who put their trust in God.
@fakeyououtdotcom2409Ай бұрын
@@AdamsTaiwan 1 - The Luke text is not referring to those who died in the flood. 2 - 1 Peter 4:6 directly states "judged according to men in the flesh SO THAT they may live according to the Spirit." 3 - Trust in God is a work of God, not a choice man has to make or not make. Faith can only come from God therefore, no one suffers forever for not having faith. That would be the definition of unjust.

Without holiness? The verse in context says to follow peace and holiness. Why is the empasis always the end part of the verse? Hebrews 12:14 KJV Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Some say that if we don't follow peace and holiness with all men that people won't see holiness in you.

So true faith does not produce anything in the life of a believer? In other words, is saving faith fundamentally inconsequential?
@InformedTheologyАй бұрын
@@johndavolta3124 Saving faith is fundamentally consequential because it's how God saves people. Being redeemed is a pretty good consequence.

@@InformedTheology lol nice save. But you dodged the question. Do you believe a person can be justified and be fundamentally fruitless or live in a total state of carnality?
@InformedTheologyАй бұрын
@@johndavolta3124 Everyone who is Justified is fundamentally fruitless because God justifies the ungodly apart from works. You seem to be wanting Justification and Sanctifcation to converge in a way that is not compatible with Scripture. Anyone claiming to be justified ought to bear fruit in keeping with their repentance or face discipline.
@johndavolta3124Ай бұрын
@@InformedTheology nah buddy. I know the distinction between law and Gospel. I am not in the McArthur camp that blurs justification and sanctification, but I don't bifurcate them either like Bob Wilkin or Zane Hodges do. They teach that you can be justified but never sanctified. While those are different they are never separate.

59:03 “We pursue conformity unto it (the law) by the Spirit in union with Christ.” So, we are to be pursuing conformity to the ministration of death and condemnation? (2 Corinthians 3:7-9) Paul says the same thing in Romans 7 - He was alive, but when he tried the law (had to be third use as these guys put it), sin revived, and he died. (Romans 7:9) Here is my question, when is the Gentile ever introduced or invited to the law? Signed, Nevernomian

I like Theocast but their interpretation of James is wrong. While James didn not explicitly put into question their salvation, he definitely was calling out a false faith. That is the whole point he was trying to make. Their interpretation of James reminds me the way _Free Grace_ adherents interpret it...by just reducing it to being "unprofitable"
@yeshuaneitheristheresalvat8018Ай бұрын
It all boils too whether Jesus SAVES OR NOT. YOU CERTAINLY CANNOT SAVE YOURSELF, AND CHRIST PLUS YOU CANNOT SAVE YOURSELF. YOU EITHER BELIEVE HIS PROMISE TO YOU, OR YOU SAY HE IS A LIAR AND DO NOT BELIEVE HIS PROMISE TO YOU. HE HAS Perfected FOREVER. DO YOU BELIEVE LORD JESUS WHEN HE SAYS TO YOU, HE HAS PERFECTED YOU, ALREADY DONE, AND FOREVER, THOSE THAT ARE BEING SACRIFIED.
