It’s interesting how espinas so far has been pitted up against monsters that are significantly faster and deal consistent damage on him but he still manages to pull a win with its own brutal strength and venom, it’s nothing to scoff at, let’s see how flaming holds up against scorned in that tournament. While astalos does lack the weight, he definitely backs it up with pure aggression, though I feel bad for how much astalos gets stun locked in the air so often. Still would love to see either base or flaming espinas have a go at bazel / seething to see who’s the toughest flying wyvern amongst the elder levels excluding Akantor & Ukanlos of course lol.

I also thing espinas for a flying wyvern is really really good at ground combat he rarely flys and I have yet to see him suffer from exhaustion that other monsters suffer from. Magnamalo has the fight of a lifetime on his hands.

Yea it's no surprise that an Elder Dragon level monster such as Espinas won, but the hyperaggresiveness of the Astalos was definitely a lot for it to handle

Espinas' victory was due in part to Astalos' short-lived charged state meaning that it has to attempt to recharge frequently, when it is slow

6:33, 7:29, 8:30 and 10:08 are my fav moments of the fight. Also, Astalos seems to realize that he's outmatched by Espinas up close and kept space between them pretty well at the beginning.

Yeah honestly as much as I love astalos he doesn’t really deliver in monster vs monster fights imo. Gets flinch locked way too much. Maybe seregios would be a better pick?

@HideousLime I would argue astalos did amazing in the the tournament we held making it to the final. Hell it almost beat zinogre; giving it the hardest fight in the tournament even more then big hitters like diablos and tigrex

Feel like he did so well in the tourny is because against luna, it was speed vs speed so both were getting flinch shoted pretty equality. Aracha did pretty well to and asta got hellla flinch locked by her but dont think she had the damage. And Zino I feel was a perfect example, he got demolished thr first half because he kept getting flinch combo'd but after he was able to break free of the combos and fight giving his own flinchs he almost won. Espi tho was having none of it, flinching nearly every attack while some times not even getting flinched by enraged Asta

Espinas seems to have a lot of attacks with very consistent stuns so he does very well against faster monsters that don’t have as many stun attacks. He also has a surprisingly fast recovery between attacks so he’s attacking pretty frequently.

At first I thought Espinas was gonna steamroll especially when it closed the neutral health gap very early on, but Astalos landing the 3 big drops kept it in the fight, however by the end even then Espinas still showed it was a level ahead ending with massive flurries and winning by 2000 health and really 3000 if we include the beginning difference.

What about Lunagaron after all that fanged wyvern is no joke as well plus it having Ice abilities is a huge advantage for Lunagaron since Espinas is very weak against Ice although true Espinas has fire which is Lunagaron’s biggest weakness but Lunagaron’s ice blight will make any opponent slow especially monsters that are very weak against ice and very fast monsters as well.

So analyzing this fight One thing that stands out to me about Espinas is Despite being a “flying” wyvern he almost never goes airborne. I mean fun fact Barioth the sabre tooth cat inspired wyvern goes airborne more than espinas lol I find that laughable. The thing about espinas is unlike other flying wyverns he’s actually really adept at ground combat which is why he wins a lot of fights.

I love Astalos, he's one of my favourite monsters of all time, but he really just stood no chance lol. To be fair, I think any monster of his level would be hard pressed to win against Espinas - when one side gets staggered by every single attack and the other barely flinches at all, there's not much you can do... This actually makes it hard for me to imagine a win for just about any monster that isn't highly resistant to staggers/flinches. All the DPS in the world means nothing if it's never your turn 😂
