I can definitely relate. We were blessed to have grown up in those wonderful days and experienced a much better world-and especially the amazing soap opera world, one in which we truly could hardly wait to “tune in tomorrow.” There was absolutely nothing to compare. I mourn the loss of those wonderful days and those great soaps.

Until 1978 ATWT was no 1 in the daytime ratings. When Douglas Marland arrived around 1986, it came back strong, starting with Doug Cummings storyline with Kim and Frannie.

It was actually the year before in 85 when Doug Marland, and you're right As the world turns was terrific when he took over.

I think this episode is one of the Doug Marland headwriter episodes from his first stint as headwriter in 1979 which was from September to December of 1979 before he switched places with the dobsons and went to guiding light and of course be would return in 1985 and will forever be remembered as the best headwriter atwt ever had. Anyway thanks you to as the world still turns for actaully having one of those first brief stint Doug marland headwriter episodes from 1979 considering all the discussions about Doug Marland that was going on in the comments for me personally the Doug Marland era was the best. And he is, still very much missed especially in these times all these years later.

I remember the set designs were so drab then. Not sure if that was intentional, or if they were just past due for a set refresh.

They were drab.. that's just how furniture and furnishings were in the late '70s.. it was called "The Malaise Era" for a very good reason.

When ATWT was at it's absolute BEST!!!!!! ALL of the 1970s and then in to the early 80s.. after that.. SUCKED til the very end of the show! impo, that is.

Actually it was great until HW Douglas Marland died in 1993. After that, the show began to dip in quality.

ATWT was an erratic mess during the late 70's into the early 80's. It was only until around late 1985 when Doug Marland arrived when the show gained a resurgence until Marland's death in 1993
@erikparker65013 жыл бұрын
@Draper Scott I respectfully disagree with you, however, I genuinely respect your opinion and would love to understand your perspective. From my standpoint, I recall watching ATWT during the early 80's as a kid (pre-Doug Marland era) and being unable to connect the dots between the various characters (from a family and historical perspective). When Marland took over the reigns as head writer in 1985, he re-focused the show upon Hughes family and finally, I was able to understand the historical connections of the characters. I will admit, I may be biased. Prior to Marland re-joining ATWT in 1985, he held the reigns as head writer of my favorite soap, Guiding Light (1979 - 1982). So, as I watched the closing credits of ATWT in December 1985 (while being home from school sick with the flu) and saw "Written By - Douglas Marland" scroll through the credits, my 13 year old self thought, "the G/L writer who won the Emmy for Best Writing and Best Show is now writing ATWT, so it must be good now". Would love to discuss offline.

No way when Douglas marlian from 1985 to 1993 it was good show after. That it was a mess

But thenit got good again until 1997 with Felicia minie behr. Thanks to Richard culliton begining in late 1994. It was devastating when Douglas died and micheal David Morrison died right around the same time.

I miss ATWT and Guiding Light! Had watched most of my life, although I probably wouldn't like them nowadays with all this 'woke' garbage....
@der2267211 ай бұрын
Just curious what you think “woke garbage”is? 🙄🙄
@gabrielstern49926 ай бұрын
So I guess you would not have liked Doug Maitland era then or the hank Eliot storyline or the Casey perretti pull the plug storyline I guess that's too woke for you but I think I understand what you are saying there is too much polerazation on TV today VS then and it's not balanced like it used to be. Also I think this episode is a Doug Marland episode from his first brief 3 month stint in 1979 as he headwrote the show from September 1979 to December 1979 when he switched places with the dobsons and went to gl while they came to atwt. So Douglas actaully had to stints as headwriter at atwt. God Douglas you are still missed today. I each soap you headwrote and your sense of compassion and the right balance even when doing Controversial storylines.
