My color choice was easy. I wanted a Ford color on my Ford and green is my favorite color. I saw a green '96 Taurus and that was it.

Great informative video on colour, the groupings and the impact on cost. Not something I have heard well explained by a painter before. I know you have a relationship with PPG, so I don’t want to ask an unfair question but I’d be interested in understanding the difference and the impact of paint quality. I have been told with my car that I will pay at least twice as much for PPG product as other industry used products and it’s hard to know is that money well spent or not. While obviously endorsement from people like yourself is really valuable. I haven’t yet had a good and completely convincing argument as to why it is money well spent. It probably is worth it and I certainly don’t doubt PPG’s products, but given I have a better half who is cost conscious (not unreasonably) I have to be sure I can explain or justify my decisions to spend a bit extra.

Price is always difficult, PPG have a range of products in all price ranges, like their Autothane Price and quality! Find your balance

@@AstillDesign thanks. I guess my question is what makes paint quality or not to help make that cost vs quality tradeoff? What should be assessed/compared between paints and is there a consistent “standard” across vendors to enable comparison/tradeoff? For example if I was buying a cricket bat there is types of willow (English willow is better than Kashmir) and a standard grading system of the willow used so I can compare that (players grade is better than grade 1 which is better than grade 2 etc) and then there is number of vertical grains on the face of the bat (more the better) and then there is preference measures like handle design and how the weight of the bat is distributed centre of mass at bottom, middle or top).

Mate, that’s well above my knowledge. Painters seem to like a brand and stick with it. Others go on price only. For custom work the technical support and product range is important, I get that at PPG plus I have jobs that are 25 years old and still looking good.

Because you have very less experience with polyester filling primers, never clean them with wax and grease remover before applying your next stage of primer

Hi Howard. Thanks for another excellent video. My apologies if this has been discussed, I cannot recall at this time. When you apply the epoxy to those rub throughs, do you still need to wait until it fully cures before applying the wet on wet primer ? Or, due to the small area the epoxy covers, can you start applying the primer after flash off ?? Regards Tony

If your going over the polyester like I was you need to paint the whole job with 2 coats of epoxy then wet on wet with primer after 30 minutes. 10 minutes between epoxy coats.
