Shorter sessions are fine Howard. It's the detail and explanations that we crave. Cheers

I wish I had the money and means to build myself a HQ Van. nothing fancy, 253, 4speed, sidepipes, Caprice interior, power windows and steering, air con and a nicely decked out rear. but unless a lotto win comes along it will stay a dream. look forward to seeing more of your build as it comes along.

Have you gone away from the 240v spot welder? Noticed you’re doing full plug welds on this car. Thank you so much for showing us all this detail!!
@AstillDesign Жыл бұрын
No, its just that I will be filling all the welds on this one. If I was to use the spot welder I would have to fill all the holes in the pieces then spot weld them on. I would be doing it twice.

I love short I sometimes don’t have 30 or40 minutes to watch a video I have used a low nap roller as well to apply primer and it also works well for industrial enamel on smaller jobs

It's just my little obsession of modifying the simple things. I would have opened up the plenum drain a bit more and made sure where all the stuff went. 😉

What’s is the product code for the epoxy primer you use and where can we buy it?
@AstillDesign Жыл бұрын
Its a PPG product, I have been using the vibrance version that is being phased out. Its also branded under there other brands. Deltron DP616, Vibrance VCP150 or PPG 410-48248. Any PPG distributor www.ppgrefinish.com.au/Distributors/Australia.aspx Cheers H

I have some learner questions: When you use epoxy on the exposed metal, your doing that on all surfaces. I get that. Where the welds go through, does that compromise the paint or is it just a case of no other alternative? Or does the weld through primer/epoxy seal up fine? Also when these were new, is it right that the panels were never epoxied inside and out like are done today and in your rebuilds?
@AstillDesign Жыл бұрын
The welds do have an effect on the paint but no real solution to that, there was minimal paint on the insides of any panels from the factory in the 70's. Expoxy is a more recent product.

Hi Howard, love the channel. Very informative and well produced. Im in a similar spot with a ford escort. I’d like to make the welds look original. Would I need to use a spot welder, or is there a way to mig plug and get them looking like spots?? Thanks
@AstillDesign Жыл бұрын
If you have a spot welder then you can weld up all the holes in the top panel and then spot or plug weld clean up the welds and then give them a quick spot or make a drill bit with a wide face that will give you the spot appearance.

Hey Howard progressing well as usual... One question, was just wondering why you are using POR15 over an Australian equivalent KBS... Is it performance base decision?. Why I'm asking is the price difference is quite significant & want to purchase some very soon.......
