I have just come over from JayEmm's channel I really enjoyed this. I'm also a 34yr old Dad myself. I've bought my Lotus Elise since I had children 🤣. To offset that crazyness I had already gone ahead and bought what I consider to be the ultimate Dadmobile a Mercedes E55 AMG wagon with the 7-seat option to future proof myself for all my Dad needs. Flies a bit more under the radar than your Aston, but I think both are under appreciated. What a machine the DB9 is for the money! Got to say you come across really well on camera and this video was very impressive for a first try, really well done! Count me as a subscriber!

I joined today after seeing you on Jay Em Cars. I am from Canada. I have two grown sons. I have always had nice cars. Currently I have a 718 Spyder and an Audi RS3. Unfortunately the new RS3 is not coming to Canada. It is a very special car. I just put my Spyder away today for the winter. I'll get her back on the road spring 2023. It will feel like a new car again after not driving it for 4 to 5 months. Anyway keep up the great work. Cheers from Canada.

Really helpful info on child seats. I have a 2013 V8 Vantage that I put my 3 year old in, but looking for maybe a late DB9 or early DB11 (possible a Vanquish) for when my 3 month old is old enough for a front facing seat then can take the whole family out!

Here From JayEm's video on your BD9, love you're outlook on not choosing between cars and kids, so had to come check the channel out. As for cars that can feel as special, I would tentatively suggest the V10 M6 BMW of the same era. Lacks the specialness of the badge compared to an Aston but for drama, the V10 is going to have plenty and I do own a V8 6-Series and is a hilariously practical car for kids. But the short answer; there isn't much that could compete. Not a dad myself, but I am a favourite uncle who spends a lot of time with my two nieces and there is something special about being able to share your passion for cars with kids.

Love this I have worked on Aston’s for half my life great to see u and your children love this car. I am 6ft1 and at one points I was 17stone and used to have to get in the back to diagnose problems lol and yes it was very tight but it was achievable

Rapide is a great car as well yes I have spent a lot of time working on these cars and mechanically that v12 was so over engineered let them warm up and avoid standing water and then they are truly indestructible. There is a high possibility I have actually worked on your db9 as well lol

Hi Ben, know what you mean about meeting your hero’s! I had arranged to test drive a Guards Red 981 Boxster S the weekend after I’d test driven the DB9 I’d arranged to see. Arrived at the garage, the guys were super friendly and knowledgeable and I’d fallen in love even before the test drive! Went out for a drive, a proper half hour blast on A,B roads & motorways & I was smitten! Put a deposit down right there & then, organised a Pre Purchase inspection, & am due to have the car delivered in the next couple of weeks! I messaged the Porsche guy and said “Sorry mate, it was love at first sight!” Sent him a few photos of the Aston & he replied with a smiling face emoji and said” I don’t blame you, enjoy”!👍❤️

Great video! A dad myself and looked at exactly the same car for exactly the same reason and found very little on the practicality. Ultimately didn't go with the DB9, went with a 2018 S63 coupe. More room in the back than a DB9 and more up to date than Maserati GTS. Absolutely love the car.

Never let children get in the way of having a decent car! An understanding partner/wife helps, though 🙂 The DB11 V8 should also be on your list to check out, and another one that I'd say would make practical wheels at a more affordable level is the 2006 on Jaguar XK or XKR. Both have useable rear seats, and both can do 30mpg or more when used sensibly on the motorway.

Great video with a different slant on the DB 9. I entirely agree with your kidies practicality observations. I never took mine out when they they were in car seats but entirely usable for children up till 12 ish years old even on longer journeys. Had my 06 now for 13.5 years and never grow tired of it. Only "upgrade" is a set of MICHELIN Pilot Sport 4 s tyres that transformed the feel of the car from the original Bridgestones. Perhaps if there had been a set on the manual you tried you might have gone for it, the difference really is that noticeable. Probably when the old ones wear out I will put a new set of Bilstein shocks on it but other than that it's perfect.

Funnily enough I was making the same consideration! Values were similar for a DB9 I wanted and a manual 996 turbo at the time.. ultimately went with my heart but I do love the look of those turbos, amazing value for a 911 turbo

It’s also amazing that you’ve looked at the Rapide S! I can’t decide between the DB9 or the Rapide S. As I say, I don’t have kids but sometimes want to carry a couple of members of my family if I can (and my little Cockapoo! 🙈) The DB9 I’m looking at is a Tungsten one so that’s brilliant. @@justinpledger thanks Justin! The DB9 rear seats will take adults on short 15 minute journeys occasionally just fine, in fact it’s a bit to fun that makes everyone laugh a bit. But if it’s more frequent and longer trips I’d go for the Rapide. If you enjoy a spirited country lane drive then DB9 will feel more enjoyable for that. It is a bit more nimble. But if you’re mainly wafting around in style and comfort then the Rapide will do that just as well if not better :)

It's so hard to decide. I love the Rapide S for its practicality but the DB9's design is just so, so beautiful. I've found a 2010 DB9 Tungsten Silver with Sports Pack in absolutely immaculate condition (no stone chips) from a brilliant garage. Or do I wait to get the perfect Rapide S. I just want something that's amazing to drive, in terms of the experience but it's primarily going to be me, one other person and our dog! Can you decide for me, please? Teehee! Thanks!

Push the passenger seat right back and have the cockapoo in the passenger footwell 👏 that’s what I’d do, hell I went DB9 when I already had 3 kids and a dog 😎

Hi Dadcar, I am looking for a DB9 volante with a daughter of almost 3 year, what would be the best child seat from your perspective ? 2 additional questions :)... do you know whether the interior size between the coupé and the cabriolet is the same ? and how old was your nephew in the video ?

The childseat I use in this video has now sadly been discontinued.. I’m looking for a replacement to recommend in future videos. Rear seats will be the same in coupe or volante, but it may be easier to get little ones in when the roof is down. I’m not sure what age they were to be honest but will be perfect until the hit the teenage years and start shooting up 👍

We are a similar age and similarly I got my first Aston last year. I suspect you didn’t get on with the manual car as it will have had the early type dampers. Your sports pack automatic is considerably stiffer, but the later parts do fit the early car. The only areas I struggled with is I didn’t find the seat particularly supportive - achy back after more than 40 mins driving. The only disappointment was the indicator stalk - straight out of a Jaguar x type. The one thing you touch all the time and it feels very cheap. Shame as it’s the only part of the interior that doesn’t feel nice.

Great comments, There may well be people who prefer the early “comfort” style setup as well. Indicators yes, also the drive mode buttons are plastic and you press them all the time, they were changed to crystal/ glass in the later cars which must be much nicer.

Have an amazing F Type V8S (conv) but doesn’t work with my 1yo. The Aston seems pretty cool but not sure it can replace my F Type… its hard!!

XK is a fraction of the price of the Db9, although I’ve yet to test the rear seats of one… shame they never did a F type style updated version of the XK lots of other 2+2s on the channel for you to consider :)

@@dadcars Yeah it is true. But here is my issue. S7, M5, or two cars Rapide, or Virage, and then a hyundai noballs mobile. What would you do. Once again 3 kids. 2 of them are in the double digits one of them half a decade old.

@@strictlyyoutube6881 if you’re children are all teenagers and older, the rear seats will not do in a virage/ DB9… so Rapide will be the special car to go for. But if you’re running two cars do you need rear seats in your special daily? In which case go for the prettier virage/ DB9 and use a sensible German 4 door for the practical tasks

Yes it is! But I installed a switch so you can open and close the valve… I keep it open 99% if the time 😎

I can't decide between DB9 and 911, I am really torn. Head says 911, heart says db9

I was in the precise same position as you and thought the 911 would have more rear seat space. A friend of mine has a 997 and he drove my DB9 and admitted it’s much more special and much more of an event! The 911 will be easier to daily but if you’ve not had an Aston yet I’d urge you to go for it, you can always swap it for a 911 later 😉

Same here, my mind was set about a 991 turbo but then I started to look at Aston Martin 😅 very useful video since taking my 2 years old princess along has to be part of the package

So...while the kiddies may fit in your Aston you may become somewhat tired of the ice creams and sweeties stuck in your Nappa leather!.. that's why we had a second car as the dad car. An now I've got a V8 Vantage I don't even need to make excuses 😀
