Nice video Sir. But you made me get the calculator out to figure out what the actual total MAINTENANCE costs were! A bit picky I know, but it would have been nice if you put the two totals (Total cost of ownership; and total cost of maintenance). You might also say that the car has depreciated (but not much!) so only depreciation should be included in the total cost of ownership (as it’s usually the highest cost), as you should subtract the actual present value of the car from your total ownership cost. Given that you paid $42,520 for the car, and it’s worth about $36~38k now, worst case your car has cost you about $6,520 in depreciation, plus about $3,600 in maintenance… You’re looking at about $10k in costs… Over 4 years!!! Or $2,500/year… Or about $200/month!!! That’s incredible value!!! And that my friend is how you should have presented the numbers! It has not cost you $45,000 to own this BEAUTIFUL car for 4 years… It cost you $200/month! Which says a LOT about the reliability of a well serviced AML V8. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. Hope I am as lucky when I buy mine… Just sold the Cayenne Turbo, and hunting for a V8 or DB9😊

As a 2008 DB9 owner I viewed your content with interest. Personally, I have found the Aston very reliable and easy to maintain. I do all the work myself which is fun and a great way to bond with your car. Aston Martin parts prices are just ridiculously expensive (and its not always possible to find the OEM part manufacturer) and I am still in the 'keep it original phase' of ownership. For example I replaced both rear shock absorbers and they were approximately £650 each for the genuine AM parts. I can confirm that brake pad and brake disc prices are also crazy money here in the UKl. But they are done now so that will be it for several years. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres are the best for these Astons, mine will be too old before I wear them out as I only do about 1,500 miles per annum. Great cars, very affordable now and will give many years of joy.

Oh! I forgot. Manual Vantages are Appreciating in value now and are running about $50-$55k in value. So all and all if I sell it I’d about break even. Not bad for owning the sexiest and best sounding car ever made.

I enjoyed your description of the costs. I own a 2006 AM Vantage manual and my cost are pretty much the same as yours. Mine was bought for $41k with 24k miles. Mine has never had an engine light come on and runs absolutely perfect for the 4 years I have owned it . I do my own oil changes (Motul Oil) and most the maintenance myself. I intend to keep it for many years to come. I did have one extravagant cost and that was wrapping the entire car in clear Xpel wrap at approximately $7k hear in Boise, ID. I didn’t want paint chips on it’s near perfect red paint. Love to see you take it touring and hear it wonderful sound on your next video.

Hi I am looking at a 2007 AM manual Vantage V8 with clean car fax and 24k miles. It is listed at 49k, and I was wondering what you believe a fair price would be? I am curious since I see pries vary for this model. I currently have a 2022 supra but I got a new WFH job so I want something more special as I do not need the commuter comforts anymore. Let me know. Thanks

@@Bosstjm3 I’m not sure what country your in but for the western USA this seems about a right price for a good condition AMV8 manual. But have a pre inspection done on the car. Pay attention to the wear on the clutch specially. $8-$10k to replace. Condition of tires, body and paint to see if it’s been in an accident, have the inspection lift the car and provide you with pictures looking up at the bottom with the skid pans off.

@@fredricbethune1111 awesome stuff thanks. I’m in Michigan and the seller is local. I will make sure to keep an eye out for these things. I was not aware that a clutch was that expensive.
@fredricbethune1111
@fredricbethune1111 2 жыл бұрын
@@Bosstjm3 Hi again. The reason the clutch is so expensive is that they must almost entirely dismantle the bottom of the car and even unbolt the engine mounts. The clutch is at the back of the Vantage by the transaxle not like most cars by the engine. A clutch package from AM is about $4K and the rest is labor. This type of major repair pretty much must be done by an AM dealer and their labor cost are way up there.

Great job on the video and congrats on the car! I'm in a similar situation...I am currently 22 months in on owning my '08 Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Like you, my car has been relatively trouble-free and surprisingly easy to maintain. I took delivery of my car with just under 27K miles on the odometer; I just went over the 35K mark last weekend. However, the big difference is I bought a Roadster. And, as most Roadsters came fully equipped from the factory, mine came with the SportShift automated manual transmission. I tried but finding a 6-speed manual Roadster is extremely difficult. With the SportShift cars, the reality of eventually replacing the clutch is complicated by the fact that when the clutch goes through its self-check on start-up, if it senses too much wear has occurred, it will not go into gear at all...which could very well leave one stranded and looking at a long tow to the shop. Additionally, the SportShift transmission will need to be re-flashed once the clutch is replaced, which requires an official Aston Martin Diagnostic System computer...which usually means a not-so-cheap trip to the dealer (there are a few independent shops with them, though). However, I really believe the SportShift is hugely misunderstood. People need to realize that this is a manual transmission, just with a computer controlled vacuum actuator controlling the clutch. When driven properly (in manual mode), they are wonderful driving cars. Indeed, the same type of transmission was found in Ferraris and Lamborghinis of the time. Long story short...the Gaydon Era Vantages are wonderful cars and definitely buck the stigma of British reliability. Sure, people criticize Aston Martin during this time that they were owned by Ford, but if it weren't for Ford, Aston would've gone completely under, and Ford actually brought them into the modern age of manufacturing and processes. I would recommend in a heartbeat that any proper enthusiast thinking of getting one of these cars go for it...just be aware that on the SportShift cars, there will be some extra care (and costs!) involved. Take care and Enjoy the Drive!

Oh wow, that's a perfect debrief. I am looking at these, potentially to get one in 2025 (undecided between this and the Lotus Emira) before Manual fades into oblivion forever. Reading this about the Automatic sportshift just made me even more convinced to final a manual example, even if they actually cost more!

Glad to see you're getting dollars-and--cents specific about the cost of ownership. Some thoughts; 02:20 not knowing how far a distance the car was transported, $1850 sounds about right for an enclosed transporter. 02:40 sales tax is what the local DMV collects, and at $2565 that is less than the 10% my state would charge me, so I usually make up a lower but still reasonable figure. Registration is about what I used to pay on my '00 Kia Sephia. 03:45 you, sir, are a master of cross-referencing, which is key to successful exotic car ownership. Knowing how to root thru the corporate parts bin is an essential skill. 06:30 gas struts are a racket. They are expensive, and wear out again after a couple of years. Invest in a prop rod. They are cheap and will outlast the car. 07:25 brake rotors, also a scam. They used to be able to be machined, it was part of a brake job, and it was affordable. Now they are a replacement item, and a brake job will run into four figures.😉

Nowadays, buyers prefer to see maintenance records from a professional shop so with a car like this, it may turn some prospective buyers away b/c there's no way to prove that service was performed on schedule and done properly.

pretty much the same replacement parts, battery, thermostat, struts, pads, and tires on my 2007 vantage. and two oil/filter changes (mobil 1) at about $75 per change. did most of the work myself. prices were otherwise pretty much comparable. no more expensive than my dodge pickup. oh... and BTW, i bought some generic hood and hatch struts and at about half the price and my pads cost about $80 total for front and rear. if i had aston do the work and supply the parts listed above it would have cost me thousands more. i can't imagine how much.

As a Vantage owner for the last 6 years I have found it pretty reliable with no real issues other than the normal consumables,,,,mine is not driven daily either but covers about 6000 miles a year on average,,,,,is your car still with the single plate clutch because you have done well covering those miles on the original clutch.

I found it very interesting that after the cost of buying the car, $38,000, almost all the cost was transport and service items, plus the last owner's lack of care. I would expect that a car capable of 160 mph would have expensive discs and pads. So really the costs have been pretty good. Let's hope you never need a gearbox. Nice review though. Good job.

Hi, great video!. I'm actually in Toronto Canada and I'm considering buying a used 2016 Vantage S with 27,000 miles on it and was really hesitant because of concerns with repair costs and general reliability. This video was very informative. Question though...you said you bought the car for $38,000 USD back in 2018? I'm looking at a 2016 Vantage S with similar mileage that is selling today at about $75,000 USD. Did you get a crazy good deal, or have the prices for used Aston Martin's gone up that much? Do you mind sharing what dealership in Florida you bought it from, or any tips on where in the U.S. to look for a good Aston Martin for around $50,000 USD?

I have thought for a long time now that my next car will be a mid-2000's Porsche 911. But lately, I've actually been considering a 2007-8 V8 Vantage. Thank you for the information. The ONLY thing that gives me pause after watching your video is the tires. I stopped your video and went to look up Michelin Pilot Sport S tires. HOLY S%%&?!? I found them online for $1,1100 a piece!?? So a tire change will set me back over $4,000? Let me know if that seems high? But it was from a discount online tire site.

A friend bought the automatic which i advised against. super annoying in auto mode. 4 shifts for literally 20 mph change. hers was 2011 model. I drove a 2014 v manuel. i read about going through clutches fast. is this true. i guess more research for my self. And you proved with the ford part the big saving on a thermostat that can be made. to think Aston needs to charge 200 for a small thermostat. thanks mike
