As I said on the Stream. Probably the best video about preparing resin.

thank you for this. I have always be dubious about dropping that amount of money on a big model when I have had so much trouble when buying upgrade kits for them. This video shows how many steps I didn't do and that they don't really tell you about, or at least didn't when I last bought from them.

Elfsorrow You’re welcome. Yes there are many models and parts that you can buy from FW that don’t tell you how to prepare the resin. The bigger kits come with a ‘checked by’ booklet which also contains a guide on the resin.

Great vid fella, thanks for sharing. I actually sat with my daughter and watched this and told her i would be using her old baby bath :)

Cheers Nat. Great to hear from you again. Baby bath is the perfect item for this process. Just be careful not to become too attached with a forge world model so that it becomes your new baby haha.

Like that's not going to happen lol. It won't cry, poo or scream (although if you dropped a forgeworld kit like that it'd make you scream....and possibly poo!! ) :). Just catching up on your vids

Just watched the unboxing of that beast a minute ago, started typing, "how do you prep all that...." Looked at the next video to the right and just deleted it. My comments can no longer keep up with your content. Well played sir. Well played indeed....

I bought 3 squads o iron siege terminators, most of them had problems with their legs (moldslip). Customer suppose told me, that the moldslip wasn't bad enough to warrant a replacement. There was a 2mm gap in those legs on both sides. I luckily had a friend, that knew a thing or two about casting parts for miniatures, he replicated one of the leg pairs for the 9 terminators with faulty legs they look a bit more boring now, but what can you do? That was my last purchase from FW. It was such an unpleasant experience.

Caliban Cadet no i didn’t. I like to refrain from build guides for these big expensive models for a number of reasons. It will feature on the channel at some point. Good luck with yours.

Graavigala85 no because they are slippy and more difficult to hold and clip off than when they are dry.

Is there any specific reason for keeping them in the warm water all night long? I usually put them in warm water and after some minutes ago I start brushing them with the toothbrush. After that, I wash them off with cold water. Isn't that enough?
@Sup3rSaiy3n
@Sup3rSaiy3n 7 жыл бұрын
Linos80 Whatever works for you mate. If you’re able to paint on them after that time then thats cool. I’ve had some models have issues even after an evening in soak. More of a CMA process. Some kid comes back to me after leaving them in water for 10mins and the paint doesn’t stick then i guarantee I WILL get the blame lol.

Thanks! This is quite timely. I’m planning on getting my first FW kit for christmas. I’m torn between a leviathan dread or Corvus Corax. You have any thoughts supr?

UKROCKS44 Corvus he has more character in my opinion

If you don't already have a character from the series then the detail on Corax will blow you away. I still can't get over how quick he moves to slice traitors up in the novels haha. The Leviathan is a nice model but Corax is an impressive piece.

If it is really your first ever time dealing with resin from Forgeworld, I would go with the Drednought as it’s a little more forgiving as a kit. As a single example, the wings of Corax are exceptionally delicate and not at all easy to repair. Please don’t let this be a discouragement or a judgement of your skill. Maybe lookup on KZbin for unboxing videos of each and that may even help with your choice. Which ever one you settle upon, enjoy it :-)

Idk, maybe random one from ebay. I heard a lot about chinese recast and how toxic it is.
@Sup3rSaiy3n
@Sup3rSaiy3n 7 жыл бұрын
oh right cool. Yes from what I've heard it is toxic but I suppose it depends which re-caster you go with. Having met and talked with the artists, designers, sculptors and rules writers I am 100% against buying re-casts. For the staff that work for GW and FW these models are their livelihoods and careers. It would be like me designing a menu, getting the ingredients, cooking the food only for someone else to get it out of the freezer, re-heat it and then take all the money for my hard work. Having said that I'll see what I can do. I wouldn't expect anything soon though.
@dickthunder5089

Well i know you're aware of GW's shitty business practices because at the end im not playing for markups and those designers get paid at the end anyways. cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/297803503596732417/384557521198907392/x.JPG

Why would you do this? What is the benefit?
@Sup3rSaiy3n
@Sup3rSaiy3n 7 жыл бұрын
Mark the Matey You HAVE to do this. They aren’t just pieces of resin (like finecast) or from plastic sprues like GW. Resin from FW has a coating of releasing agent on it which enables the casters to get it out of the mold once set. If you do not wash the resin pieces they will remain greasy and any paint you try to apply will not stick. Hope that helps.
@danuk459
@danuk459 7 жыл бұрын
2 hours minimum????? I normal just leave it in for about 5 minutes then clean it off, the water goes cold quickly if not. I've done it like that for years and not had any problems, why do you leave it in for so long?
@danuk459
@danuk459 7 жыл бұрын
Don't guarantee anything. As I said, i've not had any problems with the one's I've previously done for 5 minutes if you give 'em a good scrub. But now I understand why some people would leave it so long and might consider doing this going forward if its better for the model. And I've only ever bought resin from FW, never from other companies

cant they just do quality control without the buyer having to go through everything? what if you have no idea what you are looking for? seems like its an excuse for them passing off shit
@Sup3rSaiy3n
@Sup3rSaiy3n 3 жыл бұрын
Quality control? They do that. Some issues are not due to a lack of it but part of the resin process. FACT There are other companies with similar results in the mould process. What you’re looking for is demonstrated in the working with resin booklet they provide and experience working with the material. Similar to the plastic sprues and mold lines and flash which they do not tell you to remove in those kits. It’s not an excuse, I’ve had kits from FW for almost 20 years so it’s very much the status quo and is prevalent with other resin model makers. Hope I’ve taught you something.

Pahahaha hassle! You literally only have to leave model parts in warm water. Some people walk miles just for clean drinking water and there are a billion people on the planet earning less than $1 a day and you moan about washing releasing agent off. LMAO #realitycheck

Sup3rSaiy3n why make life difficult. I'll stick to plastic.
@Sup3rSaiy3n
@Sup3rSaiy3n 7 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you're trolling me now. Hahahaha! I was gonna take a shower today but hey, why make life difficult right? Then I was going to commute to work tomorrow, but hey why make life difficult? Lol, this hobby definitely isn't for you if you think washing some resin parts is 'difficult'. You have and will miss out on the best miniatures money can buy. But hey it's your choice how much or how little you choose to get out of this hobby. It is an extra step but it takes no time at all to fill up a container with warm water and while that is working you could build or paint other models. Avoiding resin models just because you have to leave them in soapy water....jeez I'm losing hope in humanity. I tell you what there are some plastic models that take me more time to build than resin, more mold lines and plastic glue setting slower. Should I now avoid them because they take more time, lmao. Resin isn't difficult. As you've demonstrated it is only as difficult as you choose to make it.

That’s goddamn hilarious. I even wash my plastic models. Going through this is part of the hobby, Holt. If you don’t think cleaning mould release off you models is worthwhile, do you not bother removing flash as well?
