the ball is affected by framerate probably because the friction physics occur every frame, so it recalculates the ball's speed every frame, meaning it would go further with a lower FPS.
@darlingdarling2943 Жыл бұрын
Correct. I always had my framerate fixed at 60 when doing speedruns (because I’ve always fixed it at 60 so my computer doesn’t melt itself) and it makes things so much more consistent and slippery
@Jackgalaga Жыл бұрын
wait until the security breach devs find out about delta time
@airtoumfake Жыл бұрын
@@Jackgalaga This kind of behavior can show up even with correct usage of delta time. It's because the physics simulation is basically lots and lots of linear approximations of real physics, and larger timesteps make the error worse in a way like this. A way to fix this would be to introduce a fixed timestep for physics frames, but I think implementing that isn't something you can do easily in Unreal Engine since the effects are usually fairly negligible, and it simplifies the game loop for code.
@kingacrisius10 ай бұрын
@airtoumfake This realistically shouldn't happen with correct delta time. You would need millions of fps for pure floating point error to ever matter. They probably used deltaTime slightly incorrectly, as it is very easy to do. But realistically you should be doing physics in FIXED update steps that way this kind of thing doesn't happen.

@@lukehdarowlet9321 How dare you manipulate my words to fit your own cause. My comment merely pointed out a coincedence found within the game and I was exploring to see what other names might be on there and instead you imply that I was in any way demeriting a character based on their golfing ability. Have you considered that the real reason Roxanne Wolf does not have a higher score than Fredderick Fazbear, is that she takes her job seriously and spends less of her free time playing golf arcade games? Basing someone's worth entirely on their ability to play a single game would not be doing justice to them and I refute your claims of Roxanne Wolf not being the best. One real world example is John Ross, who set an NFL record for fastest 40 yard dash. This however did not make him the best receiver as he struggled to find a start to his career due to various injuries. Liken this to Roxanne Wolf. She may not have the highest golf minigame score but that does not mean that she is any worse than the other animatronics, nor lacks the required skill to set a high score.

I have a theory as to why the ball was affected by frame rate: They probably apply a speed decrease to the ball every frame with adjustments made to make up for going over or lower than whatever frame rate they used as their reference. Because of those though, the scaling of that speed might've actually broken because of how high your frame rate was. If they want it's speed to decrease from 10 m/s to 5m/s over 1 second, you'd apply that force over however many frames are in your 1 second. At 60 fps, that'd be like -0.83 m/frame already. At 400 frames that's -0.0125 m/frame. The number is probably just so small that it got clamped and rounded up to their minimum velocity decrease, either that or their formula for doing that breaks and isn't linear, exponentially decreasing speed as you reach higher and higher fps. NOTE: I have no actual way to know for sure IF the game is doing this type of stuff, but it'd be my best guess as how the ball's speed would be affected by frame rate and would be slower on higher fps.
@monkatraz Жыл бұрын
My thoughts are similar - it's really hard to get completely FPS resistant physics... I suspect "proper" golf games calculate the balls trajectory in one shot rather than simulating it like here
@The_Lord_of_Cryptids Жыл бұрын
My thought was that there might be some kind of friction calculation going on when in contact with the ground or walls that the increased fps causes to happen too much, that'd be why some levels are affected more then others, they have more time in collision with an object.
@MasterAirscrach Жыл бұрын
Kinda close, unreal is a physics engine, not a game engine, so while it can calculate perfect physics (mainly friction forces on the ball, hence why lower fps is faster rolling and slower airborn), when running at high fps it has very little time to calculate each physics timestep (cpu cant keep up with gpu), reducing the fps gives the cpu more time to calculate, giving more accurate physics. this means that its somewhat random device to device and that the sweet-spot fps wise is different per device. Also this could all be ignored if steel wool stopped being lazy and actually made a deterministic simulation for the golf game. (note: I'm a games programmer not a physics expert so this might not be 100% accurate)
@karimalramlawi7228 Жыл бұрын
@@MasterAirscrachi do agree, as an engineering student it has to do with making frames as a timestep in mathematical calculations. So if in the studio they lock it to 100 frames then maybe they make the game think that every frame is 10 milliseconds (only in physics simulation) So if you have 1000 frames and the ball is flying then the ball will fall 10 times faster because you have gone to for example 1000 milliseconds of physics simulation While actually it's been 10 milliseconds Now the initial conditions(ball power launch, friction constant, etc) are the same ,it could be that some variables like you said friction in general a major factor Or that friction is the most significant other than power and ball roll speed
@neoqwerty Жыл бұрын
@@MasterAirscrach It'd be fine if Steelwool just capped their stuff at a default and told people "if you uncap it physics will go cray, it's on you then, this is designed for 60FPS". 60FPS is how we've rolled for most of gaming once we moved out of 30FPS console-friendly modes.

The United States harasses victims of deviant sadistic abuse by pedophiles who are misusing the technology they have access to in the military. They are using technology that is meant to keep Americans safe to spy on children, show them deviant content through hacking their devices, and touch them inappropriately or drug them. Victims of this crime are raped and abused and then as they get older are then stalked and harassed both on and offline by creeps that are helping their friends get away with their crimes. They sabotage the lives of their victims to make them as hellish as possible, and some victims don’t even know they’re victims because much of the rape happens when they are drugged or asleep. The only reason you may know is because they may leave behind physical evidence like body fluids, bruises, or scratches. The men who do this think that they can shame their victims into silence because some of the actions are coerced. They think that the more depraved they can be with innocent children the more likely they will be too ashamed to speak out. At least some men with access to this technology are using to abuse and rape children. The victims are left with little recourse because of ten they won’t know who raped them. They try to invade every facet of their victims' lives to try to shame and mock them into silence.
