I did an immediate and involuntary eye roll as soon as I heard that slow and somber version of “Save Tonight”. I actually really like that song too. As far as Bloodborne goes, I think if nothing happens by its tenth anniversary next March then it might never happen. Maybe it’s the next Chrono Trigger, a game people say they want a remake of but we never actually get one.

@@Renoistic the game is very much made for girls as that's the primary demographic. It's literally a dress up doll game and I've yet to run into any creepy otaku who like the game. It's also absolutely COATED in microtransactions. Most of the clothes are not revealing and are instead hyper feminine fantasy or j-fashion type outfits and you basically earn points by dressing the protag NIKKI up for events and stuff. Like say she was invited to a birthday party with the requirements to look "cool and elegant" then you have to pick clothes for her that fit the description. I played it for a while because the art is very pretty shojo style stuff but it nickel and dimes you to death with timers lol

@@pooby887 Helldivers had some enthusiast fans of the first game rooting for it. Who the hell is rooting for THIS? The early adopters determine whether anything even gets to the mass appeal/awareness stage. And on top of that, going by the pre-order bonus apparently this isn't even free to play, so people will actually have to pay to even SEE if they are interested, which people were willing to do with Helldivers, but probably not this. Worse off than even Foamstars, which at least had a PS+ month launch

Concord looks painfully by the numbers and designed by the exec committee, and the tone is gratingly overdone and boring. H2 is full of identity and feels intriguing and fresh (enough). Plus I don't recall too many people talking against its success. If anything- nobody, even devs, was predicting such a turn of events. Expectations, and player hype, were timid. It just was released at the right time, caught on, and exploded. Concord feels to be designed with a certain level of expectation towards a crowded market, that's not as hot as it was a few years ago, on top of that. They're chasing trends and formula that might not be leading/huge anymore, with something with tone and vibes as enchanting as eggshell wall paint.

Astro Bot looks tremendous. Some of the Action/Adventure games look cool! Love that Sony continues to churn things like that out. Concord looks DOA, it looks fine but as you said that was likely in development when the landscape was different.

Astrobot looks great. Jeff is right that we don't really get games like that outside of Nintendo. The rest of this looks like shit though, like my expectations were low but it didn't even hit that. This generation has so far been the worst of my lifetime. I am currently playing Long Dark and Hitman, cause nothing else interests me, and really not a single game this generation has been something I would consider a must-play.

just aesthetically speaking, on a real shallow, surface level, the art styles on display here were Overwatch, Dark Gritty, Cozygame and Astro Bot. Not to sound like some kind of a hayseed here but people buy Nintendo consoles for first party games, all of which have a million-strong sales floor, and all of which are explicitly friendly & lively. Surely the other First Parties would see the benefit in taking a shot at more friendly-looking all-ages games with simple appeal (they only exist to be fun), if just to have some visual diversity of these showcases or cover their bases? Astro Bot seemed like the clear standout here because it obviously looks different, and inviting also since it has Sony IP mashups it would be extremely funny if Astro Bot included Bloodborne levels

My guy Jeff, as someone who grew up in Concord and has been to Stockton they're worlds apart or at least an hour apart. Concord is just a super chill suburb with nothing really exciting happening, close enough to the Bay that you can get to the city but far enough that you lose some of the hustle. It's not much different than Pleasant Hill or Walnut Creek. Was not expecting Concord strays at the start of this lol, still keep doing what you do always fun to listen to your insight about games.

Video games are really expensive to make, I hear them say. And I know they are. You'd think they'd spend a lot more time and money getting the VERY best designers... or whomever comes up with the concepts themselves. Everything LOOKED really really impressive, but almost none of it was exciting. Maybe I'm just getting old and jaded. I may pick up one or two of these games once they're heavily discounted... and if they're on PC.

I fully understand that these game companies like all big companies are putting profits first and trying to invest in what they think will make the most money, but the amount of GaaS that Sony has gone for to me is just crazy. I've been predominantly a PS guy since the original system and now in my early 30s and have some money to burn on games and I just don't have any appetite whatsoever for this stuff. I get that you need to diversify and try and have something for everyone, but it doesn't really feel right now like they have the balance right. Like you used to have each generation that Naughty Dog had some cool franchise, and in the PS3 era they had 2 of them, and now it's just... yeah. Like Concord looks fine but there are multiple games already like that. Do they at least have a unique twist on the formula? I don't think people would pick it over Overwatch because Overwatch has more Disney-esque, mainstream friendly appeal character designs. Astrobot does look cool though and I like the way they are tying in other PlayStation franchises with a 3D Super Mario platformer vibe, and of course just cool to see PlayStation still with some roots in Japanese game dev besides GT

"want to buy the sequel on console" would have worked like a decade ago but there are so many forever games now I screamed from the rooftops about how much fun I was having in The Last of Us multiplayer on ps3, convincing my PC friends to buy a Tv, console and pay monthly just to play it wasn't going to happen. When it finally came to PC I had a discord group of 4-7 players ready to buy it day 1 on steam, skip the story and play factions with me only to find out the multiplayer wasn't included. if they just ported the ps4 'remaster' with multiplayer included they could have milked an entire group for $60 each but now they get nothing
