Astro seems really cool! I feel pain all over when working with the frontend but I'm looking to build a personal project to share with friends for fun. Thanks for the interview too with Fred. It's always intriguing to learn about the perspective and thought process of the people who make the stuff we use.

I got my 16 year old cousin up and running with their own website in lik e.5-1, most of the time was just getting them a vercel and github account. Most of the learning they did on their own just trial and error with the dev server. I really liked how they were able to still just like google css/html questions and get answers.

Loved this video, thank you Primeagen! Loving Astro, the more so once I added Tailwind...a combo to encourage devs to be creative and try new things fast. Fred (in interviews) pushes Astro as static site generation first, yet I've switched to using Astro specifically for SSR (live server output) projects. Why? Think of the typical React SPA...it's not that easy to throw in other framework components (eg solidjs) to test stuff out because of React's virtual DOM. Astro's come-one come-all philosophy encourages efficiency comparisons: easily make the same component in React and Solidjs with instant performance feedback as to which provided the best UX.

As I understand Astro is primarily about building static websites, but I am wondering whether it's possible to build a fully dynamic site with Astro? And if it's indeed possible how much would I have to fight the framework to do it or perhaps the better question would be how helpful would Astro be in building it, that is, is all the Astro specific stuff only for building static sites or is there some useful functionality for dynamic sites as well?

I don't see any reason to not use Astro for any static site. You get much better DX than vanilla HTML/CSS, and you don't sacrifice user interactivity or component architecture because you can bring that in when needed. Plus I've never found it easier to throw in a MD document on to a site. Perfect.

After all the work (plus the tedium with CSS) was done and the apps were live I just felt a sense of "meh". I persisted but I never got any satisfaction from the end product. I now focus on Game dev and it's way more satisfying and worth the effort (for me at least).
