Sorry I've only just seen your video. Very useful indeed. I recently purchased the Astrolux EA01S, it came with a body tube and battery for the 26800 size. It does take an eternity to charge through the USB C port. I've tried looking for a standalone charger. However, I haven't found one so far. I guess that we'll be in the lap of the gods, in that it may depend on how many times a company uses the 26800 in its manufacture. To be fair the longer body tube is available separately and so people might fancy a light that may last a little longer and still fit in a pocket or bag without too much trouble. Keep up your good work 👍.

Not sure why you're apologizing haha. The 26800 battery looks great, but unfortunately there's no possible way to get them into New Zealand. Re: Charger: I wonder if those magnetic chargers would reach both ends

wow, fantastic review! very useful and informative. Great Beam shots by the way :) but I'm wondering how you have determined the ANSI Lumen (6640lm and 9830lm)? at 14:37 the output (after 30s) of the Cree variant is lower than the Luminus one. So shouldnt be the ANSI value also be lower for the Cree one?

I set the thermal limit to 70°C for the specs in the beamshots section to get the 30 sec measurement. I then changed it to 50°C for all the graphs since 70°C is useless for anyone that actually wants to be able to hold it.
@Lumi_nance2 жыл бұрын
@@PiercingTheDarkness ok thanks, that makes sense. I think I am going for the EA01S SST40. Double the throw and still brighter/ more powerful, than the lamp could handle regarding heat. There is a 26800 version of that light

Astrolux should upgrade the FT02S with a better reflector and options for a xhp50.3 hi or sft40 led, since the host has great potential in producing a lot of light and a lot of reach at the same time…

Great review! But one suggestion, you can do some beamshots on buildings as they are more visible, forest and trees are kinda hard to see.
@PiercingTheDarkness3 жыл бұрын
I live way out of the city on a farm so it's a bit hard to do that buddy. On my more recent videos I zoom when showing the further away targets, makes for a much better viewing experience. To see what I now do check out my Convoy 4X18A video. Buildings are completely deceiving because they are seen at much further distances than even ANSI rating specs. If the usable distance is only 1/2 of the ANSI rating then what's the point? Trees and grass are much more real world use, rather than just shining them on buildings.
@PiercingTheDarkness3 жыл бұрын
My aim is to show an accurate representation of the flashlights in real world use. Hardly anyone out there is only going to be using them to shine onto buildings. In New Zealand there's a lot of farmland, not so much big cities and so most of my customers aren't going to find building footage useful :)

@@PiercingTheDarkness do you ever adjust the exposure when filming beamshots? It can help a lot with giving the viewer a better representation of what it looks like in person because they auto adjustment always dims really quickly and kind of make all of the brightness settings look the same.

Thanks, really great review. I’ve just bought the EA01s and am interested in your runtime graphs, I’ve not had chance to use mine yet. If I’m understanding this correctly if I start at level 5 it will run at this until around the 7 minute mark where it will start to step down and by 9 mins it’s at 352 lumens? That seems quite a hefty drop and a low lumen level if you want to use it for extended use? I assume if I use the stepless ramping I could (in theory) set it to say 1000 lumen and likely get a more extended runtime at this level?
@PiercingTheDarkness3 жыл бұрын
The trouble with a 15 min chart it doesn't show that it increases up to roughly 600 lumens further on. You can go into ramp config and change the stepped levels and/or the max ramp, this will alter that 5th level, or perhaps enter in 10 steps so that it's not such a massive jump between lvl 4 & 5. Make sure you configure the temp sensor and set the thermal limit or it'll be much less than this graph. I'd recommend setting it to 60°C and you can drop the output lower manually if needed. It would be too hard to get 1000 lumens in smooth ramping, it's difficult to determine where you are in that setting. I'd recommend setting more steps and you'll then get an extended run

it's unclear what mode is actually real (can run for a long time).. is it just Lvl4? That would mean any tiny flashlight outperforms it:) i've got one and i immediately broke the USB slot cover. I used it to remove the flashlight from the box, and it broke while trying to stuff it back to the tiny hole (nearly impossible task). Compared to the spec, i've found it's 30mm thin, which is better than expected. Weight is 144g, also better. It is indeed small, quite smaller than Haikelite SC01 for example.
@PiercingTheDarkness2 жыл бұрын
The beauty of the Anduril firmware is you can set the thermal limit to 70°C and it'll handle a higher level. My tests were run at 50°C and Anduril steps down too early, so it's hard to compare with other models. The thermal regulation was a bit all over the place, Anduril V2 has improved a lot over the V1.

@@PiercingTheDarkness thanks.. The thing is i want to use Turbo only for a few seconds, but then i need to know what other modes are "stable". And on everyones performance charts i can see only few hundred lumen 'stable', which isn't enough for this BIG flashlight.. Plus, 10min break needed each time? That's crazy.. -> I actually bought it, put black Liitokala 26650 in, and Turbo goes for 2 minutes, thermometer shows 50C (that's very hot, no interest in 70C!). And I can run quick Turbo all day with no break. But i don't know the highest stable mode. In comparison, the TM10K, a SMALL device with no mean of heat dissipation, can do 1hour @ 2000lm, 2hour @ 1000lm without step down. Also does 10.000lm for 7sec which is enough.

@@JohnSmith-ul3rd Can't really expect anything different from a FET driven light. You need a buck or boost driver for good regulated output, a FET light always always runs hot

What does it mean in flashlight videos when it displays a value for ANSI?
@PiercingTheDarkness3 жыл бұрын
Every flashlight manufacturer uses a specification called the ANSI FL1 rating. This rating, for lumens, is recorded at the 30 second mark after the flashlight is switched on. Watch this short video which explains the ANSI rating on both lumens and runtime - kzbin.info/www/bejne/poLJhKiMratrbbM
