My question is: will you need to start a new save or can you hop in the new world via an old save
@SadSackGaming7 күн бұрын
I’m gonna be square with you. I like having to start from near scratch. I bought Astroneer because it’s a game that made me remember why I like playing games instead of it being a focus on achievements. Going to be buying it on Switch when it goes on sale because if the world turns to crap, I can still play the game somewhere while radiation melts my body. I’m looking forward to exploring again.

Like others have said I am confused why they want to keep player progress out of the dlc. Is it to artificially inflate the difficulty? Like you said I would think you would be allowed to bring some things and keep your bytes etc.
@EpirekS7 күн бұрын
It’s that way so you don’t beat the DLC immediately and all the hype would be gone so it would be a waste of money
@VaingloriousGaming7 күн бұрын
I get the impression it was mostly a technical limitation, but I am not a game dev so it's tough to really give a specific answer as to what that might have been. There are, however, other obstacles baked in to slow progress so you don't just start with RTGs and a rover with the best drill and a paver.

My question for the new video is; exactly what has to be completed in the full game to allow access to the DLC? Also, your thoughts on why they even made it this way as opposed to just letting us jump into the new content. Thanks.

Thanks u so much for the spoiler-free video. ❤ My question, will there be real battles against Bl!tz? And if so, are they difficult to master?
@VaingloriousGaming4 күн бұрын
I had to get the Q&A video edited, so I'll have to answer your questions here. :) There are no face to face battles with Bl!tZ. It's more that you are working to undo her hacks and she is working to try to stop you. The final end-game sequences were a bit tricky for me at first until I had a handle on what was going on. From there, it wasn't too difficult, just patience and good timing as there is a bit of platforming to do.

So, will I be able to keep playing my current save? And while playing this save, will I be able to use this DLC? I’m so confused on how that part works.
@Bicketybam686 күн бұрын
Will it always be it's own instance of the simulation? Even after completing the DLC will it be intertwined with the original game? Are the storms a static only item and can you harness the power of the wind to power a wind farm to power your base? More importantly, once you are finished what do you think the replayability of it will be compared to just replaying the original? Cheers for the review. I was like you, I never liked the storms in the beta. They made you stop playing and sit out the game until they were gone, made a mess of your base and they didn't power anything. It was the digital equivalent of a parent saying "Stop playing, go OUTSIDE and enjoy the bloody SUNSHINE" 😜
@VaingloriousGaming4 күн бұрын
old storms: "Go touch grass, nerd." ;) But, thanks for a lot of great questions, most of them made it into the video that will go up Tuesday morning. I did goof and overlooked one though, so I'll answer that one here. No, you don't get extra wind from a storm. I had assumed you would, and in my first playthrough, I tried to power an item in a storm with a medium wind turbine. It behaved normally, stopping as the wind in the region stopped. I guess all those visual and audible gusts are just there for ambience? Though it does seem that the wind blows more frequently on Aeoluz than most of the existing planets. I was able to keep a large rover with a drill and paver running all of the time with just one medium wind and one medium battery, and the battery never, ever got close to empty.

Unfortunately, the whole part of starting over with nothing from the base game carrying over, and the apparently nothing from the DLC that can carry over to the base, kills alotta the enthusiasm for me. It feels like I'm buying a spin-off game instead of an expansion. All the work I put into my save is left behind. I can't even bring my snails with me :c Also, I never saw the appeal of storms, they felt like more of a nuisance than not. There are many parts of the base game I wish they would improve, things that people like me have been asking for (like, being able to repair/reproduce the special platforms found in wrecks, a properly working tool for flattening, a fix for the extractors needing to be repositioned constantly, etc.) but none of that gets addressed. And I still gotta deal with bugs that have been around forever - like getting stuck walking on smooth terrain on certain planets. It feels like Storms are the only feedback that got any attention. :(
@VaingloriousGamingКүн бұрын
I think you make a lot of very valid points. I was disappointed that the base game and expansion have no real connection to each other. I'd at least like some sort of trophy or object for the base game as a reward for completing the expansion. And I agree, I would have much rather had some expanded gameplay within the base game over what we have. That said, I have enjoyed my time playing the expansion quite a bit.
@Kristen2420087 күн бұрын
I always thought that we would have to start over new. I love starting new games in Astroneer anyway. Not sure why you are so angry about that. As soon as they said that it was going to be a totally new save, I always assumed that we would be starting over fresh in it. I love that. Starting with all your bytes and all of your stuff would render progressing in the DLC useless.
@VaingloriousGaming6 күн бұрын
I get where you're coming from. I don't want to spoil it yet, but there is a function in the expansion that would prevent you from using any transferred bytes right away and, instead, allows you to unlock things gradually as you progress through the different stages of the expansion. So even if there were a way to show up in the expansion with a million bytes, they wouldn't do much until you have made a fair amount of progress.
@damianfirecaster72305 күн бұрын
according to other content creators that have access to the DLC you do get access to alot of your BP's that you Do not have to research again !!!!!!! so you get alot of Unlocked BP's that you had in the base game !!!!

I wouldn't call it a lot. a very small number unlock but the vast majority are going to need bytes.

I think they cheapen us with this instead of having a story that pushes you to a new solar system after you unlock all the planet cores. this is just a way to keep ppl playing without putting in the work for what we all really want. I will pass on the expansion as I wont really miss anything and can restart my game any time.

This is looking like a skip for me. If there’s nothing new to build using my massive stores of end game resources i don’t really care. I’m personally not a lore / story player

Not wanting to play the expansion just because you don’t get to keep your stuff from your other save seems silly to me. It’s basically just like a start from scratch, just like you do at the start of any save, and by the sound of it, lets you get your items once you defeat the antagonist
@KittyPozerКүн бұрын
@@buildcraftgaming1548 hi, I meant the massive end game resources I always end up getting in each new play through. I would have started a new save for this dlc too but I would run into the same problem of running out of things to build.

Love the video, but hate that you get early copy, and then give a walk through the day it comes out. This is what is killing games
@VaingloriousGaming5 күн бұрын
looking at video game sales and player numbers, I don't think *anything* is killing games. ;) but, people buy games, get stuck on something, and most immediately lookup the solution. YT is how I earn money, so I'm going to have something ready for them when they come looking. But me, personally, I avoid guides (the irony) because I'd much rather figure things out for myself.
@Johan-rm6ec5 күн бұрын
It seems the DLC is not worth getting, same game engine with 1 planet and you have to switch between 2 separate games. So finally it's out there never will there be extra planets in the base game because the engine can't handle it. So more cosmetics until the devs themselves are sick of it.
@VaingloriousGaming4 күн бұрын
I don't know the details of what technical limitations they encountered. It could be the game engine, or it could be the way they coded the solar system ages ago that is causing problems. Or it could just be how the game tracks what is unlocked and crafted. I do know from speaking to some of the team off the record that this was not the way they wanted to go, and I remain optimistic that they will continue to investigate a solution.
@SusannaSaunders6 күн бұрын
I'm glad to see that you are prepared to critically assess the DLC. Personally, I think it sucks that you can't even take a hoverboard with you let alone the snails you have unlocked! That really sucks! I'm already put off buying the DLC...
@VaingloriousGaming6 күн бұрын
I'm glad you appreciate a critical review. I've never been one to pull punches and I will always call out things that seem like they could be better. At the same time, I think it's important to then step back and look at the bigger picture and not allow the shortcomings to overshadow the strengths. And in the end, I think Glitchwalkers is a good expansion and worth the ten bucks.
