It is inevitable in every astronomer's career that sometime, someplace, someone will refer to them as an astrologer. Although the scientist may cringe at this misnomer, pop culture has many examples where the terms “astronomy” and “astrology” are mistakenly used interchangeably. This modern misconception has some ancient roots. Join Dr. Arulanantham in exploring such celestial confusion by going back through history, to learn about the origins of studying the cosmos.

Every information provided in this video is factually correct and some of it is very interesting. The problem is that there is no mention of how astrology doesn't follow the scientific method and therefore should not be put on the same level of astronomy. Omitting this fact in a 50 minutes lecture about the two disciplines gives astrology the same dignity of a science. I'm sure that wasn't the goal, but certainly was the result.

You are right. ASTRONOMY is the scientific study of universe constellations, ASTROLOGY is Occultic perversion of universe constalletions. The two should not be confused. Astrology /Heroscopes /Zodiac signs are found under the term "New Age Witchcraft". So the body of Christ should be careful of mixing up Astronomy (scientific, measurable ) with Astrology (occultic, hidden, New age witchcraft)

The 'forced' etymology should be given in the 2nd paragraph at the latest. perhaps something like: In Europe, "astrology" (the often fanciful 'reasoning' about the heavens) was in place millennia before there was significant scientific exploration, and unlike most sciences, it was eventually part of cultural & religious manipulation of the mostly illiterate population. "Astronomy" was a 'perpendicular' approach to the initial scientific efforts at classification & nomenclature, which evolved into the technically supported exploration of optics, physics, orbital mechanics, .... (at which time it was obviously too late & impractical to migrate the etymologically more reasonable 'Astrology' away from its common practices & career investments.).

I totally agree with you. I can see no reason why an outfit at the level of Hubble Space Telescope would even bother to need to have a post like this. And this isn't snobbery- it's just bizarre to see Hubble Space Telescope and astrology together in a serious discussion.
