I used this lens, and my copy was awful at 300 but kinda usable at 250. There was a lot of chromatic aberration and the stars were wonky when pushing to 300 even when stopped down to like f7. Definitely noobs can get some decent pics, but better lenses and/or a scope would give way better results (but obviously more money).

you are of course right. That is why I recommended using the lens at a focal length of 75-135. Your comment will definitely help some beginners. Thank you. I usually use a large telescope anyway

@@FelixsAstrophotography I did Orion and Andromeda. When trying to process Andromeda (after getting a star tracker), I decided I wanted something better since the stars were awful.

@@FelixsAstrophotography I got a Astrotech 72edii and it's been great so far. I have been photographing some galaxies (M51,M101,M104, and Leo's Triplet so far). The focal length is a bit low, but I can crop in and get decent details.

That's nice, but I would suggest the 55-250mm since it, on average, performs better and has IS, which can help outside of astrophotography too.

@@FelixsAstrophotography I do own the very first generation of Canon EF 75-300 for full frame, but the lens doesn't AF anymore and I haven used it is a while. Plant to fix it. I tried however my both Nikkors 300mm, one with f4 the other f4.5. Both seem to work ok for moon shooting. I understand that coma is a major blemish with lenses and very few of them are free of that. That is the reason I asked specifically for model.

I live in a very light polluted area and lots of trees. However, I do have some moon pictures with the 75-300 lens. I got a 2x teleconverter to shoot the moon at 600mm.

Hey Felix, nice work, I have a canon T7+ (I think it is the same as your 2000D but they call it T7+ on south america) do you have any tips for someone (like me) that is starting now on the hobby? I literally don't know much about, sometimes I go camping and on the last two camping I pointed my camera to the sky but my pics was something between awful and lame hahahaha How can I improve my pics? For now I only have the camera, a 75-300, just like yours, a 18-55, a 50mm and a tripod, I'm from Brazil and we don't have easy access to trackers or telescopes down here. For now I'm interested on deep space objects. What would be your first advice for someone with a setup like mine?

First of all, thank you very much for your nice comment.😊🙏 The most important tip I can give you is stacking. Through this process, you can combine several images and achieve a significantly longer exposure time.
@FelixsAstrophotography

Otherwise, a star tracker is of course a huge opportunity to improve your images even more. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask me

Since I was just talking about stacking, I've already made a video about it. There I show how you can create great images without tracking. The video is called Astrophotography without tracking... Maybe that will help you. If you have any questions, just let me know
