uh, I have the non desert version in my house in Tasmania. They run around the house at night here and there... not sure what to do.. they aren't eating our food, and I haven't noticed any mess, and they are too cute to kill for just being there... they ignore the humane trap.. I just don't know!! lol Any thoughts?

i'd just leave them be if i were you. Or if you could catch them you could keep them as a pet. I have a pet hopping mouse and they're lovely honestly.

Get a 5 gallon drum and line it with olive oil. Put some food in the bottom and build a ramp out of a plank of wood or something. This works for mice and rats, I’m not sure about these guys though. These guys jump really well so might be able to escape. It’s humane and friendly :) you just get them out of the drum and free them outside. If you really want to be nice to them, a rub with a warm towel will help get the oil off them.

nyxocosplay I’ve been doing some research on these guys as pets. Are they as easy to keep as my reading suggests? More or less like a regular rat with different diet and they’re nocturnal?

There is an animal called the Jerboa (they look strikingly similar to these guys) they can get all the water they need from the vegetation and insects they eat. In fact, in laboratory studies, jerboas have lived off of only dry seeds for up to three years. Being that it depends on its food to meet its need for water. It may never actually drink free water throughout its life.

Given they are nocturnal and so small and difficult to catch I imagine they didn't, or at least very rarely. It makes more sense to catch one bigger animal like a kangaroo or wallaby to share amongst a group than lots of small speedy mice.
