A short video that describes the 4 degrees of motion with this parallelogram mount.

I wish you a speedy recovery. Thank you for your comments, yes the mount is sturdy enough for a 10 lb binocular.

@Blaze1024 Actually, the term that is being described is 'degree of freedom' which describes the motion of a rigid body in three dimensional space. In this case, this mount provides 4 degrees of freedom (or motion) out of 6 possible; up/down, left/right/, roll, and yaw. The terminology is correctly used.

Well I agree he did a great job building this mount. I never said he didn't.. People like you need to grow up and stop acting immature. My comment was merely constructive criticism regarding the use of improper terminology in what's supposed to be a hobby based on science and scientific principals and which shouldn't be dumbing itself down to the lowest common denominator in the name of consumerism by using improper terms created by corporate marketing departments.

Then again Blaze 1024, some of us amateur sky-watchers just enjoy using binoculars to view the incredible night sky, science be damned!

I was thinking that guy looks and sounds very familiar. Then I thought, "that's exactly the type of project Roy would do. Then I looked at the name! Lolol! I was searching for ideas to build something just like you built.

What do you use at the L bracket to hold the binoculars static in position when you move them off a straight vertical or horizontal position? I have Celestron 25 x 100s and the setup I have that connects the L to the other part of the mount won't hold them in place ... they drift downwards.

When I was building these, I called this part the "bearing" as the very bottom attaches ridgidly to the tripod, and the upper portion rotates very solidly. I never have seen a similar design.

Roy Hess ah ok, so you made or had them made. Makes sense why I couldnt find them. I'll probably make something similar with a nylon bearing

It is a bit too small. Only good if you are standing.

@crusheroftheist My issue is not with the original poster of the video. Apparently he was simply repeating sales and marking disinformations. My problem is with the dumbing down of a hobby thats supposed to be based on science and math. What we are talking about here is simple high school geometry. You know, degrees and axes of motion. If someone doesn't take a stand, then plug and play consumers in ignorant bliss will simply continue following corporate marketing departments without question.

Nice, but calling them "degrees of motion" is a misnomer. That's not what "degree" means. Each "degree" of motion you describe is an axis, not a degree.

Get a life hes not marketing anything..leave those kinds of comments somewhere else and hes not ruining anyones hobby..why dont you go post on Scientific American or something
@Blaze1024

Degrees of motion? Are you sure you don't mean Planes or Axis of motion? degrees are incremental measurements not planes of motion. If I'm correct your mount has four axes of motion. Astronomy is a hobby based on science so it would be helpful if we at least tried to use the proper definitions. .

"leave your stupid scientific crap outta it." You do realize the hobby is based entirely on science and scientific principals so if you leave the "Stupid Scientific stuff out of it" then you have nothing left but a bunch of consumers bragging about their latest and greatest toy. Thankfully the vast majority of amateur astronomers are very intelligent and take the hobby seriously which probably explains why the vast majority of Astronomical discoveries have been made by amateur astronomers.

Why don't you grow up and act like a civilized adult. By the way I never said he ruined anyones hobby He did a fine job on his mount. I simply said that as a hobby based on science we should maintain a minimum level of intellectual integrity. We should not dumb down or lower the intellectual level of this scientific hobby simply to appease those who insist on remaining willfully ignorant. Astronomy is one of the final frontiers of science where amateurs can still contribute and make discovery's
