Another great job Shane. You seem to improve your techniques on every new material you put together. I specifically enjoy watching how you weather a vehicle. I AlWAYS learn something new watching you work. Please, keep up the great work, you are an asset to the modelling family. Kudos to you.

A job very well done, young man. My uncle was on an M4 A3 E8 tank crew and when he learned how much I liked tanks he gave me his TM manual for his tank when he was in the service. Oodles and gobs of detail photos. Great job. Thanks for sharing. I learned alot.

It looks great. I like the choice of hull colors. Often people paint Olive Drab "straight out of the can" and scale models then look too dark.
@longlance67
@longlance67 2 жыл бұрын
thanks mate! I prefer to go on the lighter shade of Olive Drab as I find going neat OD becomes an shapeless blob in this scale

Great video! I, too, agree that rust on operational tanks is overdone. I don't condemn modelers who include rust or chipping effects - just not my preference for operational tanks.
@longlance67
@longlance67 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, I don't think modelers are wrong to do it as many add it as an artistic ascetic to their finishes. But like yourself, I really like to show my armor in operational status and I dig that grubby finish! lol

Thanks Shane. As always, great info and a well produced video. I'm not a modeler in your august class, but I'd like to suggest a couple of improvements. In my experience (US Army, Infantry) ALL crates and boxes include stenciled nomenclature that describes their contents. Adding that text, even if (per the scale) it's little more than a squiggly line, adds realism and interest. And, I believe all buckles on US gear, were painted black. (I'm not sure if that's the case with UK buckles) Again it adds detail and interest, not to mention accuracy.
@longlance67
@longlance67 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! Very well spotted and your 100% correct that the various issue boxes would have stenciling. Funny enough I have a decal set with the various box markings, however I opted to leave them off in this build. But they will make an appearance in further builds where they will be better seen on the model layout. thanks for the details mate

Another soothing and relaxing video Shane! Your work on the stowage was superb. Such a convincing variety of colours. Is it my imagination, or did you accidentally cut the corners off the star decals? That is the only area I feel you missed, weathering the stars. Maybe in the next instalment? Always look forward to your models. Cheers from Oz, where for once it is raining more than Ireland!😂

thanks mate! Glad you like how the stowage as its something I always try to improve with each project. Haha your the only one who noticed the stars lol Ya I accidentally cut the stars when removing them from the sheet lol I might a few scratches to the stars when I get the tracks in the post. We must have have sent some of our weather down under lol

Very nice indeed mate 👍 I just hope I can get my shermans as good when I get round to them. I'm still kind of practicing on basic kits at the moment, just as I started to improve on my painting and spraying I got problems with my eyesight so I'm not starting anything too complex until my sights better. Painting with o e eye is pretty difficult because you lose your depth perception. Anyway, great vid as always mate, all the best from wet and windy Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Once you get used to airbrush you will be surprised how quickly it is learned and pick up techniques. It is a lot of fun, but the trick is just to take your time and try to keep your paint sprays to thin layers on the trigger. thanks mate, and regards from even rainier Ireland lol

Nice one. The resin stowage looks good, although I'd have used more brown and beige tones to add a bit of contrast and to better reflect the actual colours of US Army kit. I quite like having a bit more contrast with the OD paintwork. Anyway, great model. 🙂
@longlance67
@longlance67 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I used to do more contrast in stowage but I found myself going too overboard pushing the contrast level till it became too garish and an eyesore. So I tend to be a little safe when painting my stowage. But I will take it onboard and try push the contrast going forward
@markfergerson2145

I must respectfully disagree. The spec for OD green notoriously drifted during the war. Still, pretty much everything that was Government Issue was going to be one shade or another of flat dark green with other colors being seen in other services like blue on some Navy gear. Anything gray or beige or brown would be captured from an enemy or "foraged" from abandoned civilian property (or traded from civilians for chocolate etc). Those wooden boxes for instance almost have to be civilian in origin. If the US Army and Marines could have gotten away with permanently dyeing their troops green, they would have.

Hi Shane, can i ask what paint brushes you use? also what dull coat you use?
@longlance67
@longlance67 2 жыл бұрын
So the brushes I tend to use the most are Winsor and Newton Cottman series brushes which are my go to. Also use Vallejo and 502 Abtielung brushes too which are also pretty good. As for varnishes I used to Vallejo premium matt and gloss but its too unreliable. So I been switching over to Tamiya and Mr Color clear and clear matt sprayed with lacquer thinner, which works fine for me. Though I hear great things of VMS thinner too. though I have yet to use it

In the videos I don't see that in the end you varnish the model in matte, I don't know if you omit editing it or you don't use it. I always have doubts in the end since when varnishing it loses the metallic texture of the armor and it is not real. Thanks.
@longlance67
@longlance67 2 жыл бұрын
I do matte varnish my models, normally after oil dot and pin washes. In this case I forgot to film that segment of the process. I personally don't feel it demises the textures and instead blends everything together, its down to taste in how wants the finish to appear in the end
@ManuelDeFire
@ManuelDeFire 2 жыл бұрын
@@longlance67 then the chipping and metallic effects, dust, mud, in the end I understand after varnishing in matt? I am following your technique and I am happy with my models, I am attentive to your videos because they are very practical.

Fantastic build Shane 👍👍 love the hole paint job. I just picked up the 502 desert pigments. They look easy to work with. But you do know I'm still going to expect a video on the duce1/2 and it's paint job.🤣🤣

Thanks Clayton! I'm still getting my head around pigments but they do create really nice effects when laid over still wet oils and enamel effects. And fear not, I have the first episode of my duce1/2 in the works covering the construction and some basic details I added myself. As I want to keep the build OOB
