6 years later I just bought one for $100 and another for $120. Paired up with 5600x/32gb/B450 and they make a great gaming build on the cheap. Also a few weeks earlier I bought 2 strix 1070 for the same price paired up 3600/b450/16gb. 3 of 4 of these Strix cards needed their Fiber optic lighting replaced. Easy to do, cost $15 off Amazon and I have enough for another card or two. Took less than an hour to fix all 3. Pascal 1070/1080/1080ti still are relevant as they support Gsync/Freesync, 8 GB DDR5, streaming decoder for 4k and even 900 series are still getting updates. The 1080 for $100-120 is such a value over the $300 Nvida 3050 which isn't even as fast.

*Incredible job Tom, always the first to amuse us with this awesome previews !* Btw I really expected a bit more of overclocking room/potential from this juiced up Pascals, having such a power and thermal efficiency, but I guess it's more a limit of the chip itself (lottery apart). The card has a huge watts and degrees headroom! Nonetheless means GPU boost 3.0 is doing a really great job. Thought more of 2100 Mhz, 980 Ti still has more relative overclock-ability in %. -> Other important thing to notice IMO, is how the gap from previous generation changes going from benchmarks to real world gaming. In synth benchs the difference is really small, in games much more noticeable, and I think that's due to all the pascal new arch. optimization and new rendering methods they talked about (also clock vs.cudacores). Still gonna stick for quite a bit to my liquid 1500 Mhz 980 Ti, super happy with my 2K framerates

5:45 The sexiest video card I've ever seen. I liked that whole phase of little to no lighting with a bright white strip illuminating the whole case, but with everything getting RGB I'm really liking the look of a ton of smaller (potentially multicolored) lights in an overall darker case.

Love the new test rig! It went as I predicted/suggested and tbh this is likely to be my new gaming setup (depends on how hard the rampage v edition 10 kicks ass). The card is an absolute beauty like everything Asus does in their rog lineup. The results and temps are great as well. Great video as always!

Great review and test as usual, lots of work on the new system and reviews. It will be interesting to see the other 1080s will do. The STRIX is a strong favorite pretty much regardless. Those two fan header outs are a God send especially for controlling the rad fan speeds when water cooling the gpu. It's been a complete arse ache using a Mcubed T balancer with a pwm D5 pump in a gpu closed loop. Having the gpu control the fans and possible a pwm pump speeds is worth the card alone for me. Hope more manufacturers take note of this feature. Thx TTL.

I cant see the problem with having let's say the bios on an asus motherboard (or any motherboard for that matter) being able to read the GPU temps, and having the chassi fans that are plugged into the motherboard being set in the bios to run with the GPU temps. Shouldn't that be easily done? I'm telling you it's coming in the near future.

Why is there such a high demand for the OC version(out of stock for 2 months and counting) if you can just take the standard (which is in stock right now) and overclock it to the same specs? or am I missing something? I'm currently in a queue of 400 and the next stock supply is august 15th so I might just pick up the standard one instead.

Hi, I've noticed that you have a psu mounted with the fan upwards. Does this provide additional cooling to the gpu? Since the psu is blasting air at the gpu directly upwards towards it through its Fan. I only ask since I want to know for my pc building how to setup my psu efficiently. So did you purposefully position your psu in that manner in order to cool the gpu? Thanks for any response!
