Take a look at 7:45. You accidently wicked away to much solder from one pad. For me the pad looks like one that is used to disconnect some part of the circuit for debug purpose. It´s the pad above the 4 tht holes from the connector you removed. And another thing, Playdoo is conductive. If the green stuff really was something like this and it shorted both legs of the component, it may be broken.
@ysdoho
@ysdoho 2 жыл бұрын
+1 the component above the pad looks like a voltage regulator and the solder was there connecting the traces that go to a via. You can see the changes when you compare from 1:08 to 7:45 or 8:39
@dkgadgetfan
@dkgadgetfan 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right. That is the problem. The 5 pin IC located right next to the "solder pad/shorting pad" ("S4501" in the schematic) is a power switch for the 3V LCD voltage. If the pad is not shorted, then the APU cannot enable the switch, and the LCD will be permanently off.

Received my order of low melt solder a couple of days ago and finally got to use it today. Got my first customer iPad charging port in the shop and I’ve practiced for hours removing ports from donor boards and I was never able to get the port to just slide off the board with the “low melt” that I had but with yours it came right off and I wasn’t even trying to make that happen! Hey Alex, cheers from Lebanon ☺ I put the syringe on a piece of aluminum paper so that I can easily grab any flux that falls from it. Someone said in the comments about a key combination, Fn + screen function key, and it seems it's the fastest test you can do as long as the laptop is still assembled. Otherwise, if no usual component seems to be damaged, I guess it could be a hall effect sensor on the board, it's used to let the computer know when the lid is closed. So if the hall effect sensor is faulty, the computer will not power the screen on to save power.

If you have compressed air, one of those 60 dollar AliExpress glue dispensers is amazing for flux and paste. At 60 psi you can dispense amtech through a 24 or 26 gauge needle effortlessly, but the hole is so small it freezes the instant you let go of the button. Makes applying flux much easier as well since you can feed it directly where you want it.

I have seen a few KZbin postings where they have found a problem with the battery internal protectors, or the relationship to the charger protection limit. If the battery is discharged even a little too low, then it may refuse to take any charge. Their remedy seemed to be to force an initial charge to bring the cell charge above the critical level and then the charger started working again.

Static discharge? For a while I worked at a company that had a lot of mysterious board failures. They also had no static control protocols. One one run of boards, they had a 60 percent DOA rate. Coincidence? I don’t see a lot of conductive mats and wrist straps near you. A while back I was patting myself on the back at having fixed a Tektronix fancy and fast oscilloscope. It was worth more than my car. One careless move with a screwdriver, there was a small static spark, the scope started displaying funny lines and two minutes later the main irreplaceable Tek IC died. I got a lot better at wearing a wrist strap after that ignoble episode.

The display may not working when the customer brought the motherboard. It's not because you replaced the charging port. Unrelated issue that has been there that the customer, either didn't know or didn't disclose it. When customer come with specific task, like replacing the connector or only fixing the board with charging problem, we only fix that specific problem that the customer's ask based on their diagnostic. The customer only want the bathroom repaired, meanwhile the roof is leaking. So we only repair the bathroom, not the roof. Unless customer want to fix the whole house, including the bathroom and the roof, we will approach the problem differently.
