This motherboard came from a customers' machine that had been damaged by lightning, which destroyed the onboard network chip. The machine had several other issues, and a fix was not guaranteed, so they opted to have me build them a newer and faster computer. I was given this old unit to do what I want with, so I opted to try and repair it.
The blown network IC is a Realtek part, the RTL8112L, a gigabit network PHYceiver in a QFP-48 package. It took a bit of digging to find replacements for it, which I eventually found on AliExpress. The chips were surprisingly cheap, at only 50 cents a piece, so I ordered four incase some arrived damaged or I screwed one up. Fortunately the chip replacement went smoothly.
